A sweet slice of life

This is a really special 2-part short film that has a much more realistic feel to it than we're used to, yet remains in the BL genre.

Nobody is rich, the mother looks like a real person, and the setting is really beautiful without relying on the usual wealth and glamour - the director uses the natural setting to its best advantage.

The pacing is really good, managing friends to lovers in such a short span without feeling rushed or unnatural. The relationship is fluffy without being saccharine, and the chemistry between the two leads develops and feels real. The script is good, and a character's description of what it feels like to want someone is age appropriate and avoids the silly cliches like a kiss on the cheek is something shocking - these two want to touch each other, and the confused character is just the right amount of hesitant. Realistic dramatic tensions are not given overblown weight, and resolve in a natural way - it's refreshing.

The acting is superb - Mon has always been good, but Oak is really good in this and seems to improve with every project. And again, Mon performs the main theme.

I will certainly watch this again, and I'm looking forward to the next project.

a more realistic countryside BL

Overall: this is a shorter movie (first part was 30 minutes) in two parts from a small production company Wayufilm. Their stuff is kind of hit or miss for me, I did enjoy Country Boy (both parts) and Country Boy 2 (second part). This ended up on my 'hit' list. I graded a bit on a curve because this is a small budget production. Watched on YouTube.

Content Warnings: fight, vomiting, past tragedy

What I Liked
- the actress for the mom did a great job and I appreciate how a mom character doesn't look like the moms we typically see in series/movies. Was also really happy with her response at the end.
- I think they acted realistically drunk (though not sure about sobering up that fast for the one character)
- a nice 'getting to know each other' montage
- the color grading
- the countryside setting and music (one of the actors sings the OST)
- the behind the scenes clips (though they were unsubbed)

Room For Improvement
- I am not a fan of toilet humor
- it felt a bit close to "I don't like men, I just like you" trope but that line was never specifically said

Wonderful Enemies to Friends to Boyfriends

This enemies to boyfriends loves story set in beautiful Northern Thailand. From the opening scene of the leads fist fighting over a girl, who rejects them both, and the final scene, was an emotional journey. These are just regular young adults. There are no supercars, no mansions, but there is a lot of love, family, and friendships. Kung Ten's mom is mostly in a wheelchair, but yet runs a restaurant, and is the strong matriarch. I especially love that her hair roots are showing because she hasn't colored her hair, because I know real women like this. My favorite part is when Kung Ten tells his mother about his relationship. It's just is just priceless.

Highly recommend this series. In two short episodes, it has more storytelling than some 12 episode series.

Soft. Gentle. But Impassionate

Sometimes something cinematic comes along that that smacks you immediately in the face as momentous. Initially, you might not want to believe that as it is not showy, splashy, or emotionally charged. Yet, it impassions you at your core. You begin to feel its power and impact on you from its inception. It seems to sense your need. These two actors have a way of drawing you in and making you a part of their story.
It is an understatement to say this is one of the BEST BLs in the year 2022.

a story about love and self discovery and acceptance

discover love: a well-narrated story, in two short chapters, with production effort, with the freshness of very natural and real actors, in a natural mountain and lake environment that truly makes you feel that you are there. a simple story of how one discovers that he is in love and that he is in love with a boy in this case, and with simplicity the acceptance by themselves and their environment. very inspiring to take the drama out of something that should be as simple as that. a small craft series. it's worth seeing.
