Love Tears of a Buddhist Recluse (1950)

Yeung Lau Ang is an orphan girl brought up by the abbess of the White Lotus Nunnery. Lau Ang falls in love with a rich man's son Cheung Chin Pang, but his superstitious mother arranges for Lau Ang to marry his terminally ill younger elder brother instead. Not long after, Lau Ang's husband dies. Her mother-in-law banishes her from the home, citing that she brings bad luck. A vulnerable Lau Ang is tricked into marrying an elderly man, Manager Chu. A sympathetic Chu releases her from her obligation and promises to support her living. Not willing to break up his family, Lau Ang leaves and becomes a prostitute in Guangzhou. Chin Pang finally traces her. Feeling unworthy, Lau Ang rejects him. She goes to the White Lotus Nunnery to become a nun. Unexpectedly, she meets Chin Pang again.
