Tsi Fook Yu is a miser who hides all his treasures beneath his bed. Aware of this, his elder daughter A Lan and her husband, Old Chow, conspire to steal the fortune from the old man. They enlist the help of Old Fung, who agrees to go along only if A Chui, the second daughter of the old man, agrees to marry him. But A Chui refuses. The third daughter in the family, Sau Ying, seizes the chance to marry Old Fung instead. A Chui runs away from home and is injured in an accident. She is tended to by a vegetable hawker, A Mau, who takes her home to rest. They soon marry. Though they are poor, the marriage is a happy one. On the occasion of Fook Yu's 60th birthday, a pregnant A Chui asks A Mau to bring a fattened goose as a birthday present, only to get mugged on the way. He is left with a bunch of goose feathers to present to his father-in-law. During the banquet, the goose feathers are scattered all over, causing disarray and A Mau's expel by the in-law. A Mau hides in his father-in-law's bedroom beneath his bed. Old Chow and Old Fung execute their plan to steal Fook Yu's fortune. They tie up a drunken Fook Yu in the bedroom. However, as they search for the treasures beneath the bed, they are frightened off by A Mau, who takes away their guns and locks them up. The thieves are later taken away by police. Fook Yu awakens from his drunken stupor and learns of A Mau's heroic efforts. A Chui is giving birth to a baby when her father comes to visit her. Fook Yu promises to donate one-third of his treasures to charity organisations and give one-third to A Mau's family. Father and daughter are thus reconciled.
