Sweet, light and funny drama!
It is an unpretentious drama, a simple story, without big surprises but a delight to watch. If you are looking for a drama to watch without any sorrow or stress, this is the one!Song Ha Yoon is an excellent actress and has a great comedy timing, I really enjoy her reactions. On the other hand, Dong Hae is wonderful in this return to dramas playing a successful CEO, but inexperienced in love. I hope this comeback to acting is to stay!
This drama is a classic cliché, but it's still a pleasure to watch two people who love each other in such a pure, naive and true way. I loved it in all episodes!

It exists . . . awkwardly
If I want to be generous, I can call this show a fluffy rom-com. However, that will be doing a disservice to the readers of this review. The premise of this show is a rom-com but what is delivered is subpar at every level. The main story line is awkward. Bits of cliche plots are cobbled together. It feels tired and predictable. You could call it a labour of love because a bunch of people certainly worked hard to deliver it even with all its problems. Unfortunately, the core concept is not particularly funny nor romantic. I get that they want to get some laughs out of the struggling dating show but you are more likely to gag than giggle. The pacing is also inconsistent. Some plots feel rushed while others just meander along.
This is not helped by the OTP having little chemistry. Their whole love line felts contrived. It was a bad case of puppy love when they were young teens but their feelings for each other is unchanged for 20 years. Ok, it is a bit of a stretch but this trope has worked in other shows so it can work here too, right?
Yes, it can work and they say that they have resolved their issues and they are all lovey-dovey. Yet the same issue caused them to breakup again before the love bite had time to fade. Have they learnt nothing? Are they 34 or 14? The fact that the issue can be resolved with some straight talking is totally ignored. Some of the later dialogue doesn't make much sense. It is the classic "Do as I say, not as I do". I know the happy ending is mandated but it is one audacious piece of writing.
In terms of acting, the FL is prone to overact because her character is quite exaggerated. I have to give her credit for acting like a fool at times just for laughs. The ML pulls his weight but he can't carry the whole show and his character is a bit nebulous. Support cast is patchy. Lots of one dimensional characters. It feels like they are trying to be a caricature of themselves.
To be honest, I am a bit numb after watching this show. It is not so bad that you want to throw things at the monitor nor is it good enough to be truly enjoyable. You keep watching while clinging onto the hope that it will get better. In your heart, you know the actors deserve better, the crew deserve better, WE deserve better!
It exists . . . awkwardly. Enough said. Peace out.

A Cute Mini Series That Had More Potential
I started up Oh! Youngshim when I saw that it was staring Lee Dong Hae. I have followed him since his trainee days and he is one of my favorites. The story started off with so much potential. The backstory abs building blocks of the drama had so much potentially and definitely hooked me with the first episode. Unfortunately, it was a bit flat after that. The character development was lackluster and the relationships/love triangle became boring, quickly.
I didn't want to judge too harshly on the cast because I am not familiar with any of the actors other than Lee Dong Hae. I will say the acting itself was a bit boring. I wasn't convinced of the relationships and even the antagonists/love triangle participants were underwhelming. Everything was dry and monotone almost.
The music was not memorable at all. At one point, it was so unfitting and oddly placed that I turned it down and read subtitles because I couldn't focus on the scene because of the wrong tone the music was setting.
I honestly would not give this drama a second watch. I don't mind that I watched it. it had its cute moments and appeal, but it didn't provide any re-watch value.

Unfortunate, failed in execution.
Good thing it's only 10 episodes! The direction of the Korean drama “Oh! Young-Sim” is really unclear. If you want to call it a comedy drama, how come there aren't any funny scenes? If you want to call it a romantic drama, how come there is no chemistry between the two main actors: Song Ha-Yoon and Lee Dong-Hae.
It's no wonder that comments from asianwiki.com readers appear:
“Good actor/actress but bad director/script writer silly! this is the first time i saw romcom serial but im tired to watch it”
Yes, totally agree. I decided to watch this drama because I missed Song Ha-Yoon's acting, which I had seen in the Korean drama "Devilish Charm", and in this drama played Oh Young-Sim.
Meanwhile, Lee Dong-Hae, who played Mark Wang Kyung Tae, I was curious about acting in the K-pop boy band "Super Junior", because at first I only thought Choi Si-Won, a member of Suju, had entered the world of acting.
Lee Dong-Hae's acting was not bad, although Choi Si-Won's acting was even better. The reason may be that Choi Si-Won's flying hours are longer.
But the most annoying is the series of stories. Some plots feel rushed while others are slow and twisty. Even though the idea of a story about a 14-year-old girl and her puppy love is very interesting, you know.
Unfortunately, yes it is very unfortunate, failed in execution.

Another Bait & Switch
Well, this was a bit refreshing, initially. The drama had a good run throughout its first half with a solid setup around the character Young Shim and her drawn character Youngsim. It allowed for quite a few of funny scenarios and bits. Song Ha Yoon did a great job in bringing the erratic nature of both Young Shim and Youngsim to life. However, the drama dipped hard in the realm of mediocrity around episode 6, turning the drama into the most bland and generic displays of soulless cliché romcoms. Forget everything the drama built up earlier on. The female lead life story was built on her father's character Youngsim and her erratic personality but that was abandoned. It's really unfortunate for the wasted potentials it initially had.Was this review helpful to you?
Pass
You will not miss anything if you don't watch it. The actress is good, but that is the only thing that stands out. Cute light story of childhood friends/first love and the misunderstandings that come with it. Script and overall vibes very mediocre. Cast other than the fl was also just ok. The FL is a variety show pd, a job that it seems to me kinda overplayed in kdramas. The ML in the other hand a poor turned rich cliche. It's not bad, but don't have high expectations watching this. Was this review helpful to you?
Really great drama! A must watch!
It was really good! It’s funny and sad sometimes but the cartoon parts can be a little exaggerated but don’t take it seriously! Also great songs! I wish it had more episodes honestly. Maybe a season 2! This drama is really a must watch it might be a little short but it’s great! Also the actors acted amazing.?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Not Good Enough
Korean Drama " Oh! Youngsimi " is a light office drama. The story is pretty simple and kind of predictable, utilizing a lot of tropes and cheesy twists. However, it does keep things light and romantic throughout the series.
However, the story does get idiotic after a while. It was dated and even got boring.
The performances, in addition, were decent, though not great. Though they didn't have much to work with in the first place.
The cute animation that was added to the main plot was interesting though.
So, overall, two stars out of ten.

Series/animated-ish that wants to be funny, but about toxic relationships
A very "animé like" series, short (10 episodes) which tells the relationship of 2 college friends/lovers, who separated due to misunderstandings 20 years earlier, and meet again through a reality TV show .+ the production is efficient, without downtime, and the paced is fast, punctuated with sound effects.
+ the tone is rather humorous
+ the OSTs accentuate the comical/cute side.
+ there is no villain and the story is relatively realistic.
BUT:
- I don't like the character of the self-centered FL, who can be extremely cruel and mean for the interests of her show.
- the ML character is very in love, OK. But the FL reduces him to a submissive man, whom she completely dominates in an unhealthy way, in my opinion.
=> Overall nice drama, but I don't like the ending at all.
******************************************************************************************************

This review may contain spoilers
The best i can say its watchable enough for 10 episodes that are 45 minutes. If it was the "standard" 60 minute 16 episodes i would have dropped it. Actors and their acting are ok or even good at times.
The "romance" in the story hinges heavily on the main characters relationship as kids. They meet 20 years later and they are still in love, ok possible, but the dude shows up only to get revenge on her, and somehow they are meant to be in love. The interactions they have had throughout the show didnt add anything that should make them like each other, apart from a few forced ways that he has to help her. But thats after he almost cost her her job by humiliating her on her show. The way they split as kids felt very unreasonable and forced, but they were kids so okay i guess.
I also heavily dislike her dad, he made a comic/cartoon about her and she complains to him about how it ruins her love life and he makes jokes about it and then continues with trying to make more of the comics?
Spoiler:
I was hoping she would end up with her colleague, but nah, the two leads start dating for a bit in the final episode then he leaves again because of another stupid misunderstanding and then half a year later he comes back bankrupt and she takes him in again. If they have stayed split up living their lives it would have been much better ending at least.

You should've asked
This drama goes for the worn-out Misunderstanding trope. A twenty years old and childish misunderstanding at that. The main story could have been over in five minutes if the lead characters just talked to each other. But I guess eighty percent of all dramas would not exist if the characters just communicated their issues.
It doesn't stop there unfortunately, and the writers are really pushing it by using the Falling Into His Arms trope multiple times.
Then there is also the immature petty behavior of the ML, that feels off-putting at times.
So is there anything good about the show?
I actually liked the mischievous SFL. As flawed as she is, at least she has no issues communicating what she wants. :)
The story as such is simple and light-hearted. They didn't try to drag it out and kept it 10 episodes short. So the pacing is good.

Not a good screenplay too. Sorry, but I got bored from the first episode.
I won't recommend this drama for drama lovers.
There isn't much story either. It's a simple storyline with no interesting thing to carry the story.
I have not seen any of the works of Song Ha-yoon. Her bad acting is the first thing I noticed when I watched the first episode.
Conclusion : Don't waste your time on this drama.
