In this third episode, we delve into one of Japan's most successful exports: "anime." Every year Japan produces some 2,300 hours of animated films and series: an incredible 400 plus titles, with the vast majority made in Tokyo. This level of output is all the more remarkable for the fact that Japanese animation is still mostly hand-drawn, frame-by-frame, a hugely labor-intensive process now rare elsewhere. Actor Sato Takeru joins us as we take a tour of anime's history and learn about the challenges faced by a fast-evolving industry. (Source: NHK-World) Edit Translation
