As a variety show, it's not bad and you can tell iQiyi spent money, However as a music show, the quality of the music is definitely a tier below Show me the Money etc. The stages are just not that rewatchable and seem to be getting worse and worse.
Maybe it reflects the developing rap scene, but is there really a reason why the rich and heavily commercialized music scene in China should fall behind Korea? Hopefully the musicians can hold themselves to a higher standard because as a foreigner, MC Jin easily stands clear above the other contestants and even the judges. Although his mandarin pronunciation is not standard but in both English and canto he is just so clear. His group cypher was the best stage of the entire show so far.
There are also many of these 'top rappers' who have problems like unclear pronunciation, heavy autotune, bad vocal technique, and repeating tired themes over and over. In fact sometimes what you really need in a rap performance is not some bling bling but just to get the rap nailed down.
That's why having gimmicks, such as bringing on a famous judge like Jay Park, is really meaningless. He is so complete as an artist compared to most of the contestants that it's hard for him to give meaningful feedback. It doesn't help that he constantly needs a translator. Instead of these fancy gimmicks please make some good songs.
