Drama - Understanding major principles of Confucius and Chinese/Asian Culture

This drama is a perfect demonstration of generation gap issues and filial piety. Generation gap is a major issue in Chinese culture because the elders don't understand or don't want to understand the pressures of their children/younger generation. However, Confucious teaches us to keep filial piety regardless of age.

Those of you who want to watch a simple romantic comedy - this drama is not for you.
But, if you want to understand a bit more about Chinese Traditional values, then watch this. The meaning is quite deep. And, character development is demonstrated in all major characters.

Best choice ever

If you are looking for a romance drama, this is NOT it. While there is a romance between the main characters, it is a subplot to the main story.
If you are looking for a drama that depicts family life in all it's nitty gritty, you've come to the right place. I loved this show and nothing felt glossed over. I could easily relate to what the characters were going thru and the emotions that comes with it.

Best Heartwarming Family drama of the year

Best choice ever is maninly a family drama which protrays huan's growth, pain and love and relationship between her mother. She cuts ties with her mother out of anger and tries to be independant. Truly a nice family drama the ML's were great in terms of acting realistically and showed a great, loving relationship. We may not have had much intimate scenes and kissings but remember this is a family orientated drama that mainly focuses on huan's family, you coulc also say the mum's the main character in this show.
It comes to realisation that your mum has always been their for you, and cares for you and that you should hold on to your parents before its too late, have no regrets maybe not forcing marriage with her ex-boyfriend. She had good intentions but was clearly fixated on huan's future but slowly realises what huan wants is different to what she wants for her.
Truly, worth a watch after so many struggles it ended with a happy ending, perfect for those family-drama fans out there!

It's a Family Affair

The ML and FL were great in showing depth of emotions from business and personal conflict. The FL's mother was superb in showing how a parent within their capabilities can learn, grow and impact all that they touch. The grandmother was a heartwarming reminder on how to focus on what's truly important and not get lost in throws of life or business expectations. The focus within this series was more family relations and situational than romance. The endearing quality of this drama is that it shows how connections endure throughout different circumstances and come out stronger in the end. A very heartwarming drama that is worth watching.

Little bit boring

The last few episodes were interesting, but the rest were boring. The entry of the main leads was good, and I initially thought there would be a clash between them. However, the female lead already had a boyfriend. The story began with her perspective. She had a boyfriend who was always good to her, and they shared a strong bond. However, they broke up because of his sister, who manipulated his mother, leading to a conflict based on social status. The male lead entered their lives, and the common link was his grandmother, who was an acquaintance of the female lead. The female lead's mother constantly nagged at her , trying to impose her decisions on her daughter. She was the dominant figure in their family. As time passed, the mother gradually began to understand things better.

The story depicts the hurdles faced by the leads and how they overcome them. It also explores the challenges faced by two other characters due to the age gap in their relationship.

I particularly liked the chemistry between the second leads, the female lead's brother and her best friend.

Worth Watching

Best Choice Ever is a simple story about hardwork and dedication and family ties.

MCH will tell us the story that with pure determination you can reach high goals, no need to be a scheming sly fox.

A lot of the characters in the story had been using connections to gain what they wanted
and this is purely reality, there are a lot of things in this life that can only been gain through connections, but somehow MCH would like to give a different light on this matter. Even if she is surrounded by scheming people who are afraid of their own shadow and guilt it didn't stir up her heart and did her best to move up in the field she have chosen.

Best Choice Ever

its a mix of romance, family drama, and personal growth. It's all about Mai Cheng Huan's journey as she deals with her controlling mom, her relationship with Jia Liang and her boss, Yao zhiming. I find Mai Cheng Huan's struggle to find herself relatable, while Jia Liang's loyalty and flaws add depth. The mother's overbearing nature and Yao Zhiming's intriguing persona keep things interesting.
Even though it might have some familiar storylines, the strong acting by the cast, especially Yang Zi, He saifei and Xu Kai, makes it feel fresh.
In a nutshell, "Best Choice Ever" is worth watching as it is a drama that explores love, family, and finding yourself. It's a must-watch for anyone who loves family dramas with depth and complexity.

An appealing, and interesting urban cdrama

Best choice ever is an interesting family drama which started with a comedy but seriousness at the same time. Best choice ever is indeed an interesting family drama.

There are four characters I loved the most in this drama and those characters are; Mai chenghuan, Yao Zhiming, Mao Yongxin, and Mai Chengzao.

What I loved about chenghuan is her principle, determination, decisiveness and ambitiousness. There's also the love she has for her whole family, and when she's taken a decision, she always stand by that decision.

There's also Yao zhiming, a successful businessman who only seeked profit in whatever he does. Furthermore, he had little trust in people, the only one he trusted was his secretary 'he dong'. But he later changed his view of life upon getting to know chenghuan. He discovered the true beauty and meaning of life.

There's also chenghuan's best friend "mao yongxin" who married early but later decisively got a divorce. What I liked most about her is her desciveness.
And there's also chengzao. He studied law, but found it hard getting into a top law firm.

Among these characters, there's chenghuan who had a failed relationship but didn't allow it to affect her determination. Zhiming who didn't believe in true love but unexpectedly fell in love with chenghuan. Yongxin who no longer believed in marriage, changed her mind when she fell in love with chengzao. And there's chengzhao who reunited with, and married the woman he's loved for more than a decade.

In conclusion, best choice ever is a very realistic urban cdrama. The reality acting, happenings of life, and comedy are what made it unique. And really, anyone who chooses to watch this drama won't be disappointed!!

UNDERRATED DEFINITELY DESERVES A HIGHER RATING!!

When i started this show i literally had no expectations, for one it was a female centric chinese family drama(most of which are generic), there was an ex-bf and his annoying family, the fl's annoying mother and worst of all the pathetic ratings on mdl..But dont let any of these stop you from watching this show

pros:

1) All the characters are realistic and their reactions to situations also seem human, no one is excessively kind and they react the way a normal person would in most situations

2) parallels between characters: i think that there are a lot of clever parallels drawn by making certain similar characters in order to prove that the environment you were raised in matters more than money, xie jialiang's father's mistress grew up in poverty just like MCH but she turned out to be greedy and cunning whereas MCH is caring and diligent, we also see some comparisons between MCH's ex and Zhiming, although both of them are rich, zhiming was forced to be independent and opportunistic and he learned to cherish his loved ones due to all the loss he faced whereas xie jialiang turned out to be timid because he was used to always getting what he wanted and not having to fight for anything(hence not being able to protect MCH)

3) The pacing: I have to say the pacing was absolutely perfect for most of the show and i think that the breakup/resolving of issues with mom all took the perfect amount of time

4) One of the biggest issues i have with certain female centric shows is that they force the fl to choose between love and career (although this may be realistic) but im glad that the fl didnt have to give up on either and got the best of both worlds

5) The ML....YAO ZHIMING OMLL...He is the epitome of husband material, there are so many shows where the ml ends up "helping" the fl and basically the intelligent fl is dumb in comparison but this man was so respectful, he never made decisions for her, he always stood by her side when she needed him, he tolerated her mother even when they were not together and he was RESPECTFUL. after hearing his grandmas will he did not throw a tantrum or make some plot to steal the hotel(this may be the bare minimum but its still so gentleman like) and he always lets her know when hes jealous or uncomfy with a situations (hes literally such a green flag)

(may contain spoilers below)
cons:
I only really have one con and thats a pro in itself in a way? SO the fl's mother never really got the retribution but on the flip side i think that its very realistic she didnt(so technically not a con)

she lived in the country side and was very uneducated and she got married at a young age for a better life but was still stuck in the circle of poverty and she lived most of her life as a mother, she had no other identity besides a mother/wife and so her only job was to worry about her husband and children and make decisions for them....I wish they hadnt given a her mom a terminal illness at the end because that literally felt like they gave her physical pain in return for the emotional trauma she put her kids through, it feels really weird hating on a sick character and i felt like she should have changed more.....BUT I personally also feel that the chances of an asian mother changing her personality and habit of nagging is one in a million (lmfao) and most people cant change the way they behave so yeah i think it wasnt that bad

one other thing that was weird was how many rich people were around her, shes like a real life rich person magnet(I'm still waiting for my grandma to tell me she is secretly a millionaire T-T)

As expected, the long wait is worth it!

I've been waiting for this series to come out and finally it's here! After watching the first 4 episodes I could say that the long wait is worth it. Yang Zi never disappoints. Xu Cai and the other casts were very good too. Story plot is great. Highly recommended. I'm very much excited for the next episodes.

Just make a separate drama with the mother in the lead, for God's sake!!

I have seen ridiculous importance given to mothers in Asian dramas - and you let it pass convincing yourself that it's a part of the culture.
But using a mother as a pivotal tool in determining the story is just a lazy or untalented screenplay.

However this drama transcends all boundaries of atrocity.
The mother in this drama is the lead and every other actor is playing a support role.

She is crude, tacky, greedy, atrocious......and this is not just the character written for the drama -it's her own overacting and portrayal that makes you want to cry "enough already!".

Of the 22 episodes I watched, I tried forwarding her scenes, but when you do that, the episode ends!!@#. That's how much screen time she's given!

The story itself had some possibility of being intriguing. There was absolutely no romance between the leads till ep.22 and honestly you don't care anymore!
Its all about maama.....

Wow.....glory be to motherhood in this country where she gets a lead role with two of the hottest stars.
Miserable waste of time ??

Mother of female lead sucks

Maybe it's an extreme personal preference, but I can not stand moms who only care about when their daughter is getting married and how old she is getting, the older she gets the harder it will be to have kids. I know it's relatively important but this one was made so that the female lead's only role was to get married into a good family and have kids. From the first couple minutes, all the mom talked about was marriage and having kids, she hated the boyfriend but the moment it was exposed he was actually born into a rich family she switched sides! It was so irritating I couldn't watch more than 2 episodes. I was so excited at first because Xu Kai and Yang Zi are both great actors but I just couldn't handle the mom >:(
