Emotionally Addicting but Draining

This show was a roller-coaster of my emotions, misled and misused by the editing of the show. I watched all 15 episodes from beginning until the end-- keeping up with the weekly updates.

If you are willing to be ignorant and are just looking for a show to giggle to when you watch the cute interactions of new relationships forming and cry at unrequited love, this is the show for you. The producers certainly did a good job of making me feel those feelings. Trust me... my heart fluttered, I kicked my feet, and I cried to this show.

But if you're looking for the whole story, you won't find that here. They bring in a new character mid-show and decide to cut most of her screen time. As humans, we want to believe the easiest thing-- so the producers edited her scenes to make her look shallow, dry and generally uninteresting, that way she would interfere with the plot set out by the producers for the "original" members of the house. It made the ending unsatisfying and honestly confusing because so many scenes were with-held from us.

Like other reality dating shows, the producers commit to a storyline after the first two episodes and decide to edit everything to fit that storyline. This includes the chosen flashbacks, dramatic music, cutting scenes, etc. Expect the same for the producers of Heart Signal 4.

Slow and long

I think the show was promising at the start because of the cast, but the more I watched, the more I doubted it. Since my favorite was Ji Won, it was sad to watch entire episodes without him. I was thinking to myself "why don't they find people that aren't so busy and bring them into the show?". So this was honestly a mistake on the producers part.

When it comes to the dates between the cast members, they didn't really show anything special in particular. Mostly they were plain and showed two people in a cafe or restaurant just casually talking. To be honest, I prefer activites over plain dates.

Regarding the love lines, they were disappointing. All guys were into one girl and mostly all girls were into one guy. The producers should then maybe add more cast members or pick more diverse cast members.

As I watched the show from when episode 1 released, I guess it was easier for me to watch the whole thing. I believe that if I was going to watch the whole thing when all episodes were released, I don't think I would have been able to finish it. All in all, it was a decent show, but it wasn't very exciting to watch.

Long story short - failed casting and awful directing/editing.

While I love each and every cast member as individual, the casting crew did not do enough screening and interviews with them, otherwise we would not get this mess. It's important to cast people with different ideal types and romantic expectations to give the show more variety of interactions. We did not get it here. It was one man and one woman story with 6 "supporting characters".

All that could still be saved if there was some kind of directing involved - forcing the cast members to go on dates with different people. Asking them to pick someone they have not been on date with yet, or random dates, or making contestant pick dates for each other.

Still, the first half of the show was great and I'm actually far more interested in watching After Signal than I was finishing Heart Signal 4.

Watch if you have free time to waste

On episode 13 and at this point, this has got to be the messiest dating show I've ever watched. 4 guys and 4 girls, yet all the guys are aiming for just ONE girl. In every date that each paired up couple go for, this girl's name is always mentioned and I can only imagine the frustration of the other 3 girls who are also on this programme to find love. Instead of focusing on the person in front of them, they see these girls as back up plans. And the worst part is that I don't see the appeal of this one girl at all, her personality is bland as compared to 2 of the other girls. Another thing I was expecting from a dating show with adults is the maturity to have honest conversations about their emotions, which is severely lacking in most of the male contestants on this show. Usually the last episode is the most eagerly awaited one, but I will be dropping this after watching the second last episode.

Storyline

İt was obvious line JY-GR from the beginning. Just it will be boring in eyes of producers to make it like that. They need some more drama and action, that's why line JY-MG was created (even watch how it's going after show), ending make more sense after this.
Sometimes it was bad acting, especially when Lee-Soo came to TV room with MG and JY . Although İ really enjoy to watch this show, the scenario is getting worse. İn first 3 seasons they was going on a dates making something interesting (workshops, paragliding, etc). This times only cafes, lp bars and wine. İf they will have seaons 5 İ really wish they can work on it. İt's not pandemic term anymore.

Disappointing Casting

By now, Episode 14, a lot of people have been complaining about how this 4th season of Heart Signal Korea is super disappointing. And that's true.

This is due to the casting/recruiting/etc. decisions made by the producers.

The 6th season of Heart Signal China has disappointing visuals but before that, this 4th season of Heart Signal Korea barely managed to triumph over Heart Signal Japan's lacking visuals.

First off, Mingyu, Hushin, and maybe Jiwon did not have corresponding female visual counterparts.

Second, of all the guys that Jimin (possibly the only female visual in the show) had to be interested in, how come it was the one that she couldn't even regularly meet (too busy with his career).

Third, although Heart Signal is not known for great fifth/sixth members or newcomers, after 3 years of break/hiatus, why didn't they just cast Kihoon's friend (Jiyeon/오지연 from Episode 7) from the Heart Signal Korea spinoff called Friends. She would've been the perfect counterpart to Jiyoung, they both have the same cute vibe but probably would've been totally different when it came to personality/et cetera. And so the events in the show would've been not as predictable (even if the end game couples and events also didn't leak beforehand).

Why focus on the visuals? Because clearly somehow people like Jiyoung's face despite her heavy plastic surgery and overdone aegyo and so the outcome of the show would've been varied instead of the same identical scenes over and over again.

If Jiyoung had a more mature/less cute/etc. counterpart, she would've been an interest still to some, but since Jimin was too busy chasing a specific person that also wouldn't reciprocate, it was decidedly in Jiyoung's favor.

Or again, if Jiyeon from Episode 7/etc. of Friends was cast for this 4th Heart Signal Korea season, then it would've been possibly not the same situations repeated ad nauseam.

On the other hand, Mingyu is basically the opposite of Jiyoung, as in he had everyone's interest save for Jimin (which still makes no sense since he interacted with her a lot, at her university, et cetera, but maybe Jimin has a specific type or something). And so if they got somebody that was more proactive or had dissimilar appeal than Hushin or Jiwon, then that person might've been able to change minds too.

I've seen all of the Heart Signal versions and basically all of these East Asian dating shows, and even though I like the non-romantic/etc. aspects of this 4th season of Heart Signal Korea, it is obviously maybe the most disappointing season yet.
