During the Civil War between the KMT (Kuomintang) and the Communist Party, a group of guerrilla troops of the Republic of China who fled in exile on the Thai-Myanmar border partly withdrew back to Taiwan in 1961 and distributed them to the mountainous areas of Qingjing for reclamation. Those who did not withdraw from Taiwan became Thai mercenaries in exchange for identities, and stood guard on the high mountain of Padang on the Thai-Lao border. The same community of destiny left behind by the war lives in the mountains of northern Thailand and Nantou respectively.
