Main leads carry this show

Insanely outdated story with an outdated film style and Im watching solely for Uee and Hajoon as every other character is INSANELY annoying.
Award for most annoying character and actress has to be given to Hyo Sim’s mother whos entire personality is 1) to care for his sons 2) spend money that isnt hers senselessly 3) be phenomenally dramatic and emotional

Cannot believe this drama was given the thumbs up for 50 episodes

Only watch this drama if you enjoy Uee and Hajoon’s acting and need background noise

I'm into this story

I'm writing a review this early because I wanna defend this drama...Some of you are hating it sooo much.....
Am I being biased because of Uee and HaJoon? Yes, a little....But, I like the way most of characters are messed up rn, we all wanna see some character development....
I absolutely love HyoShim, her older brother and her brother who's studying law...
I'm excited to see his and HyoDo's love life....
HyoShim is gonna be in a love triangle for sure and I'm in for it.....Team TaeHo♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

Update: It's been 6 months since I wrote this review...Phewww!!!The time flew soooooo fast...and I was right about this drama, I LOVED EVERY SECOND of it...The character development was amazing. Love triangle didn't even matter in this drama.

My most favorite characters after HyoShim and TaeHo were Mirim, KkeutSoon halmoni, Gaon and her father....♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

I'll miss this drama soooooooo much....😭💗

p.s:- THIS DRAMA HAD ONE OF THE BEST OSTS ever.....I listen to them on loop

YOUR OWN LIFE MATTERS!!!

Today was the last day for this drama I need a new family drama for Saturday and Sunday😪😪😪. This was a big and different replacement from my last drama A Gentleman and a Young Woman, since it was about Hyo Sim's life (FL) and not her family. The story was good I started watching it while it was ongoing from ep 30 and it really got me engaged. I feel like it is not good for an ongoing drama If want to watch and enjoy it. It is better if you complete it at once. The story is about a girl who has devoted her life to her family, and she falls in love with a chaebol son who has a problem, he is portrayed as a good father, brother, and friend to her as she sees the reason why she needs to live her own life. I lived the OST because it was energetic and showed that the FL needs to live her life like that. The other characters showed some character growth like the FL mother, The ML cousins, the FL brothers, and her nephew and niece. The niece cut my eye she didn't live like the FL because she saw her aunt and she was like no I don't want to live like that. The FL brothers seemed selfish to me at first but as the show went on, I saw that they had their troubles too. The bad people weren't really important to me since it wasn't a makjang drama. The only reason I started to dislike the show was from eps 48 the female lead felt like she didn't progress more, and the writer tried to twist some outrageous scenarios in eps 50 they tried to redeem the FL action, but I hated the way they did that, but the last eps showed redemption cause the ML and FL had TWINS😛😛😛😛😛.

Great from start to finish! Although, not perfect...

'Live Your Own Life' is a great drama from start to finish, although it isn't perfect. It involves many different story points, truly unpredictable plot twists, themes that I loved, characters that were either really interesting, funny, relatable and/or worthy of being shown. The cast and acting were incredible by (nearly) everyone alongside an OST that was incredible in every song. I always wonder regarding pacing with big dramas with such huge episode sizes and episode lengths, however, for this drama at least, it was never an issue. Perfect pacing is hard to come by, and is what I thought would be impossible with such a big drama like this one. I think that's why I've given a high re-watch value compared to my usual ratings for that sub-rating.

Whilst I do absolutely love this drama, I should point out the negatives. There are a couple of really overbearing characters (although really well acted). Some of these characters were so overbearing that at a few points I considered dropping the whole drama because of these characters. Another negative was the acting of a few supporting cast members, although since they didn't have much time on screen, wasn't too overbearing.

In terms of the story, I really liked how fresh it kept on becoming. Instead of moving from one story point to another in a chronological fashion, everything kept going smoothly as though it was just one long story from start to finish, which is exactly what I want from a drama. I also really liked the filming locations alongside the camera work and fashion choices (which I don't usually pick up on).

Anyways, I do definitely recommend everyone to watch this. The FL was actually relatable in terms of this, and I will give you the message now to! Live Your Own Life! Watch this and your life will be better!

Disappointed....

This has to be my biggest disappointment of this year. At how much i waited for this drama to come out i would not expected to be this bad. Don't get me wrong. The FL and ML and SML were really good and the story between them was good its just i felt like until the 30 ep the most of the ''others'' were like ''clowns'' in this drama. I was really angry at that mother and the 2 ''little'' brothers how they expect everything from their sister alone. O jha...and the fact that the FL and ML were in a relationship and didn't tell each other their problems..i think this was a little bit...stupid?....anyways....After the 30 ep it started to be a little bit better. I'm sorry to say this but the best part of this hole 51 ep for me was like the last 15 min. And sorry to say this but unfortunately i had to skip almost 80% of this drama so i can finish it. I watched it all just because i liked the main actors.
Ps. That 7 score rating i solemnly gave it just for the 3 main leads.

STUPID BROTHER WHO CANNOT STUDY BUT STILL WANT TO STUDY NOT SURE BECOS OF THE MOTHER AGAIN OR HIMSELF. ALL BECOS OF THE MOTHER. HER SELFISH AMBITION AND GREEDINESS. SO SELFISH OF HER TO PUT ALL THE FAMILY BURDEN ON HER JUST BECOS SHE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO IS RESPONSIBLE. THE REST LIKE LEECHES AND PARASITES. CANNOT STAND PPL WHO ARE PARASITES.

ALL OF THEM TAKE TURNS TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HER. SHE IS SO STUPID TO TAKE UP LOANS FOR THEM. AT LAST EPS 27 SHE TELLS HER FAMILY SHE IS MOVING OUT. HOPE SHE CAN DISTANCE HERSELF FROM ALL OF THEM.

Up and down

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this drama. I almost shut it off many times but fast forwarded through almost every confrontation between the mother and the daughter. It was too much and pretty ridiculous. But I love the relationship between Hyo Shim and Tae Oh, It kept me watching. Great actors. When Hyo Shin started to wear clothing other than ugly, baggy gym clothing, and her bonus started to act like a family normal human being instead of a self-centered screaming lunatic, it was easier to watch. Several good story lines, several bad story lines. All in all I liked a lot of it.

Not dreadful

Dramas that are 50 or more episodes have to be judged differently from shorter dramas. I like them because there;s more room for story development and character development, but they rarely take full advantage of this. So usually they fall into two categories - dreadful and not dreadful. this one was god but like so many deteriorated rapidly at the end, especially the bit about the hospitalized father and all that business. It would have been a stronger story of he'd just gotten hit by a bus years ago (where was the ubiquitous K-drama dump truck that takes out almost everyone in there stories: Just when we needed it!)

It's important to note that this was a drama trying to make a point, albeit very heavy handed at the end - you have to live for yourself, no matter what Korean family custom dictates. This seems obvious to Westerners, but it is still a new concept in Confucian societies. So I give it a pass - including the truly awful mother - and give it points for trying to make a sicial statement. Would I watch it again?
No way!

A MAKJANG without cheesy filler

This drama is surprisingly well written for a full sized makjang drama. It has all the classic tropes BUT THE ACTING ELEVATES IT.
Most of the time i would expect some actor to lack in a long running drama which tends to lower the quality but the acting really brought it all together.
Hats off to Lee Hwi-Hyang the actress playing Tae Min's mom, she was so thoroughly evil that even when her back story was revealed there was no empathy to be felt for her. Go joo won was also a very convincing male lead that we all just wanted to root for.
I have to say the last 10 episodes delivered so many plot twists that i was wondering if the writers had extended the number of episodes airing.

Pros:
- proper character development for some of the characters (not all)
- entertaining watch. while some scenes are so skippable the over all watch worthy or on the edge of your seat factor is there.
- self aware characters. i like these characters much more than dumb and ignorant and thank fully there was presence of maturity in all characters
- Lee Pi Lip , his acting was probably better than his sisters lol, but it could also be because she was a convincing narcissist that i like pilip better

Cons:
- I didn't see the character development from some of the main characters that i wanted to witness.
- episode 46-51 was a weird wrap for me

_______________ SPOILERS________________________________________
CON 1.
Hyo Sungs Wife. This woman is such a give and take type of being. only after realizing that her mother in law is about to have a chaebol son in law did she START paying attention her or even respecting her.
MI RIM > over this B, i dont even wanna know her name

CON2.
I do not understand how in episode 48 Tae Ho became the such a red flag, while being a consistent green flag.
after Tae ho finds out about a very tragic fact behind his parent's death he doesnt explain anything to Hyo Shim and only says we need to put off us getting married, I am going through something and need space. Hyo Shim was disappointment but NEVER said no, she said thats fine, was supportive and gave him his space and time. AT THIS POINT Hyo shims mom was willing to get the two married...
Skip to ep 48 after some things unfolded hyo shims mom was not willing to let the two get amrried but finally gave in in episode 47 and tae ho was in a rush to get married. Hyo shim finds out something about her dad and tells tae ho she needs time and needs to put off the wedding. what does Tae Ho do? THROWS A TANTRUM. Do you even love me ? why are we together? suggested infidelity, and even planned to leave the country..... man gaslit her out of this world... HYO SHIM was still too good for this loser.

CON 3.
HYO SHIM my girl went through a life changing transformation and a fight to gain independence only to make more sacrifices of giving her liver at the end SMH...

CON 4.
The ending. all i saw was that a good daughter who knows how to sacrifice will sacrifice everything till the end, and let everyone gas light her... sadness

Patriarchal propaganda at it's finest

The writer was so inconsistent and wrote a disingenuous final arc for the main character . Ridiculous drama and sacrifice for no reason other than to push the agenda that sperm donor fathers who abandon their children can return decades later and have their mistress beg for a liver transplant . Outrageous writing from a female .

RUN AWAY, SAVE YOURSELF

This show is REALLY old in its whole ethos - glorifying suffering and misery as a sign of inner purity and espousing the virtues of unquestioning filial devotion (to one's actual biological parents).

At one point, I was thinking about how Confucian the show's message seemed as the FL's awful mother continued to suck her dry and she continued to bear it heorically (with PLENTY of tears, ofc) when the mother ACTUALLY SAID "Like Confucius and Mencius said, support your parents"

The focus on enduring extreme, endless misery being proof of a person's good character was also very wearing. The non-stop shouting in the first 20-25 episodes was also incredibly hard to take, and another sign of the old school feel of the Drama. That kind of high decibel screaming and shouting was clearly intended at times to be comical, as it was/is in daily dramas.

It's worth stressing that this show was not very makjang in its story elements. Only light touches of makjang, but a whole lot of misery for our super-suffering FL. There have been wekenders in the past few years that shun this archaic formula, but this one embraced it enthusiasticall. The final irony is that in a Drama called "Live Your Own Life", everyone EXCEPT the FL got to do that for most of the show, while she finally did so only in the last 20-30 minutes of the final episode.

"Doormat , pushover and gullible daughter" should be the title of this drama

I didn't like this drama as the characters never actually develop. The FL is indeed a pushover for the family at the start and her family is terrible. The plot seems promising from the middle where the FL shows signs of development and the family members are kinda towards maturing. Then come the last 2 episodes wheres all the character development that was shown either by the FL or her family members reverts back. I mean what is the point of wasting 20-30 episodes if the characters are still the same as they were in the beginning.
The story has an happy ending but I can't forget about the pushover behavior by FL and asshole mentality shown by her family members in the last 2 episodes which brought down my rating from a solid 8.5-9 to 5

The actors/cast have done a really good job. Especially the ML and FL have made this show very interesting with their acting.
