The Tama River, which flows between Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture, has long been home to many abandoned cats. Most of these cats die from starvation, disease, or typhoons. Photographer Osamu Konishi has been photographing cats in the Tama River since the 1990s and continuing rescue efforts every day. Many of the cats abandoned are cared for by homeless people living on the riverbank or by volunteers who live nearby. While touring the riverbanks, Konishi interacts with these people and provides them with support and advice. On the other hand, Mr. Konishi's wife, Michiko, has been rescuing cats abandoned in nearby parks. She also takes cats that can no longer live outdoors into her home and cares for them.
