To boost their morale and secure advantages at the negotiating table, the UN forces made a final effort at Shangganling. On October 14, the UN forces launched a fierce attack on Shangganling. The PVA soldiers bravely resisted the assault, engaging in repeated struggles to hold the position. After transitioning to tunnel warfare, they continued fighting in extremely harsh conditions.
