Yamanami-san's sepukku leaves the members shaken, including Hijikata, who blames himself for the death of both Serizawa and Yamanami-san as he futilely attempts to fill the void left behind. Kondo and Soji both attempt to comfort him. Kondo decides ti fight till the end and carry half of his burdens. Katsuragi sensei slowly observes the developments as he gains further traction. Shinnojo falls sick with a fever, and Namunosuke takes care of him. Daisaku advises that he takes care of himself, too, but Namunosuke says the same right back to him, telling him that it is a blessing to have found a person for whom you are ready to throw away your fate. Finally, understanding that no matter what, Kyujuro could never attempt to erase his father's and Serizawa’s words from his mind, he heads to Sakamoto Ryoma for advice. He learns that he is currently a wanted man for his killing of Shonai, but Ryoma appreciates his realisation and gives him an English book to introduce him to the wide world. On his way back, two Choshu samurai attempt to track Kyujuro but are held back by someone. Daisaku approaches Kyujuro once again, and he spills out his emotions, breaking down in tears. He welcomes him back, but when Kyujuro reminds him of their fireworks promise, Daisaku sadly thinks that he surely won't be there to see them with him. Katsurai Kogoro learns from a survivor that Daisaku had cut down the Choshu samurai who were attempting to kill Kyujuro, finally deciding that it was time for action. Shinnojo gets out of bed and reveals his plans to quit the Shinsengumi to a very shocked Daisaku and Kyujuro. (Source: Japanese = TVer || Translation = MyDramaList)
