Season: 1

Daisaku suspects that the kidnapping message was a plot, but the members decide to rescue Namunosuke. Hijikata is informed about Shinnojo's plans for departure and is torn between his duty and sincerity. Saito promises to see him through till the very end, no matter how twisted his decisions are. Okita Souji follows the two brothers in his stead. The members successfully rescue Namunosuke but learn that the gang was paid to do it, just as Daisaku thought. Souji finds an unconscious Mikisaburo and Ito Kashitaro is captured by Katsura Kogoro. Souji is unable to fight due to his illness, but Daisaku rescues him in disguise, and Ito returns unscathed. Back in the headquarters, Kyujuro apologizes to Daisalu for having ignored his sincere feelings. Namunosuke and Shinnojo have a heart-to-heart talk, deciding to stay together. Hijikata grants them permission to leave, asking them to stay alive and survive. Daisaku and Kyujuro bid farewell to the duo, but Namunosuke says that they'll meet as long as they are alive. Seasons pass by; the Satsuma domain fails to respond to the Aizu leader, and the Shinsengumi are not allowed to attend important meetings. Hijikata suspects the Satsuma domain and Choshu are colluding but is confused as their ideals are vastly different. Ito Kashitaro informs that it was possible that someone who was capable enough to unite the two existed. Kyujuro visits Sakamoto Ryoma. (Source: Japanese = TVer || Translation = MyDramaList)
