Following their successful exam, Kamagiri Daisaku and Fukakusa Kyujuro are assigned to the "Yamanami Squad," led by Yamanami Keisuke, known for its misfit members along with Namunosuke, a new recruit who joined earlier than them. However, Kyujuro, who had been eager to polish his swordsmanship to avenge his father, begins to feel impatient since all they were doing were basic exercises like running, in addition to chores like preparing dinner, patrolling the town, and picking up garbage. While on duty, he notices Gengo Shonai, his father's murderer, and openly challenges him but narrowly escapes death after getting saved by a mysterious man. The man advises Daisaku to keep an eye on Kyujuro as he would end up dying if nobody watched over him, leaving him conflicted. Namunosuke treats Kyujuro’s wounds, and he learns that it was Daisaku who had carried him all the way back. He begged him not to tell anyone what had happened. He makes him Oshiroku as a form of gratitude, and Kyujuro reminisces about their time together under the moonlight. The following morning, Namunosuke and the rest of the team run into an important person from his past. (Source: Drama-Otaku; edited by:MyDramaList)
