only 10 minutes of the 20 minute short film
Overall: the production has made the odd decision to release only 10 minutes of the 20 minute short film. They have a fundraising project here https://www.zeczec.com/projects/Prayinlove_BL where people can pay and see the fully 20 minute short film in July. However, they also want to raise funds for the whole series. I think that they should have released a really engaging short film in its entirety for free and used that to fundraise for the series. They also needed to use an international friendly platform (I didn't see an option to change the language on their current site) and include internationally friendly rewards instead of physical goods that no doubt require a lot more money to ship internationally. The 10 minute short film is here https://youtu.be/JhYUeHrlABw?si=6JDp9miOUEmpVJBc and it was okay. For a BL movie/series, they needed a better start than a guy surrounded by women flirting with him though.
I do think productions could do crowdfunding for BLs, but if they aren't with well known actors in BL or a sequel to something really popular then they need to have a really amazing trailer/hook, be realistic about how much they can raise with crowdfunding and be international fan friendly with reward levels and crowdfunding platform. I recently participated in a BL manhua kickstarter that exceeded its goal by a lot, so the money is out there if the project is done well.

That was.. short
The 10 minute special didn't really give anything away (it's actually 20 minutes but I believe the full film screening is part of a fundraiser to produce the full length series), which is good and bad.Bad, because I got more information from the synopsis than I did from watching the special, which isn't necessarily something negative, just a tad bit of confusion that's cleared up only when the synopsis is read. The special is actually clear enough on what exactly is going on, but if there's no precedent establishing the story, it can seem a little vague.
Good, because after reading the synopsis, everything slots into place. You see the main characters, their motivations and a bit of their backstory clearly, but despite that, there's very little information to go off of, building anticipation about how the rest of the story would play out.
The project seems to be crowdfunding to produce the series, and I would certainly be very interested to see how the story goes, I'd say this special set it up quite well.

The short film, a prequel to Taiwan's first Ganghood-style LGBTIQ+-themed romantic series, which mixes mystery and crime, begins when the character played by Zheng Nan Zhong, remembered for his participation in the Taiwanese drama 'Amazing Grace', from 2020, He arrives home at night, drunk, after participating with his coworkers in the celebrations for his promotion, to discover that the character played by Yang Qi An, the renowned actor leading the Taiwanese drama 'Anti Reset' (2024), the Chinese film 'Kinematics Theory' (2018) and the also Chinese series 'The Ambiguous Focus' (2018), has abandoned it.

'Pray in Love Special', which does not even have the entire short film, the latter containing 20 minutes in length, seeks to raise funds to be able to film the second story created by "Xia Hua Art" after 'Wu Xie', since its creators, director and screenwriter Maxine Hsieh, and producers Kumi Fu and Willson Chiang, after obtaining the Arts and Culture Grant from the Film and Television Office of the Taiwanese Ministry of Culture in 2021, have not been able to obtain the financial resources necessary to carry out their work.
Let's support the work of SoulChill, the same studio that produces 'Innocent'.
