okay follow up

I liked the first season enough to look forward to One Fine Week 2. How the writers will approach "star dating a normie"?

One things I liked about first season was bit of twists and turns narrative that kept you guessing. But in second season they changed it up and things weren't up to debate much. It starts on a similar note, but as plot progresses, it kinda loses the spark.
The variety show setup is repeated, albeit the setting is changed and it does affect the story a bit. Idols are filmed 24/7 instead of having a crew around, which at the end of season starts to generate plot holes. What will they do with the footage of idols openly beefing or main characters being together?
The narrative highlighting struggles of being an idol is continued, but served more as a plot device than focus of the story. Yes, it's an important part still, but I felt like it happened in the background and real focus was the romance.

There are new characters. As much as I liked the acting of Woohee and Lee Ki Taek, they were just kinda there. Woohee especially, she was the helpful friend but that's it. Lee Ki Taek did a good job, I liked him in In Seoul and seeing him again was nice. His character was more developed, even though he lowkey felt into the second male lead cliche. He was more like School 2015 Gong Taekwang or Heirs Youngdo, the type of less approachable guy who magically opens up to female lead.
The two villains are bit cartoonish to me. Most of the time I wanted to skip their scenes but knew I needed context if their schemes come to life.
One thing is sure, I did felt the flustration from male lead. His relationship took a hit because of his idol status, and he didn't know what to so. However the chemistry the couple had last season was barely there? Maybe that was the point, as they were supposed to be exhaused by circumstances.

The pace picks up at the end, but in general I felt the story could be told in 6-8 episodes instead of 10. It lags a bit, and when a new episode dropped, I kept finding myself forgetting the plot of last episode. I just wasn't as engrossed in the story to remember every little detail or refresh the page to see if new episode is up.
As a stand alone webdrama, it's average. As a follow up, it's bit disappointing. It's not bad, but it kinda misses the mark. If you liked first season, give it a watch and see for yourself.

Oh boy ...

*sighhhhhhhh* grab some snacks, this review will be lengthy ...

-______- ....

— Heads up before we get started, most of “One Fine Week s2” is blocked in the U.S. so you can’t watch it on YouTube, god knows why they did that *eyeroll lol,* you can watch it on VIKI though!

I don’t sugarcoat my reviews but I’m also not going to berate the series altogether because there were some good things, but not much folks, so when I say this season has to be one of the most disappointing continuations of a web-drama I’ve seen to date, clearly I’ve got to add context to what I say, which is what this review is for, so to start off, I’ll say this season had a lot of potential but was flushed down and wasted by an unnecessary love triangle, and poor writing.

Here’s why.

The first season, which I rated very differently, had character depth. Even though the main FL’s were switched, the reason they switched in s1 was due to their own internal struggles, in s2, the reason for their switch is incredibly poor ...
In s1 the reason for Byul/ Da Eun switching is because Byul was “sick” (though I personally think she wanted a break from her idol life), Da Eun excepted this switch because a) it was only for 7 days, b) she’ll just be stand-in and c) she’s never experienced the life of an idol star, and once again ... Byul is sick, so she cautiously accepts the offer even though she’s pressured into it really ... In this season? They switch because Da Eun wants to see Jungwoo because he’s gone awol (we’ll get to that) and because Byul’s image is being distorted and she doesn’t want to go on the variety show Jungwoo will be in ... Compared to the first season, there’s no depth in this switch, it’s just thrown into the plot and I think that’s what bothers me the most.

One thing I will say s2 did right was show the extent of idols dating normal people and how their lives can change instantly because of the companies reputation and overly zealous fans, that part was done well, but the relationship between Da Eun and Jungwoo is written so friggin poorly in this season I want to cry, in the first season we got the struggles of being an idol from Jungwoo point of view (and a bit of Byul’s too), he’s worried about being stalked everyday, he can’t live a normal life anymore, and he’s constantly taunted by anxiety of one of his former saesang “fans” stalking him in the past, he’s scared to go to sleep at night, the list goes on, his character had DEPTH ...

Which is what I loved about s1, it brought idol world issues, such as:
— saesangs
— dating life (toxic fans, not all SOME don’t come at me lol)
— company constraints, like scheduling
— mental health issues
— corruption in hierarchy (female idols being used to please “hierarchs” to keep their jobs, happens in real life btw and it’s sad as hell)
Where did this kind of realist sh—wander off too???

Besides these things, I think the biggest issue I had with s2 was how poorly Jungwoo’s character was written ... Compared to s1, he had no character depth whatsoever, none, in this season he was just a guy who follows what his company says, doesn’t fight for Da Eun, doesn’t fight for their love, gets jealous of Da Eun being around another guy, I mean like lmao, what kind of writing is this??? Seo Dohyun was a better written character, and he’s not even the ML y’all ... Honestly if him and Da Eun got together I would’ve clapped, sorry Jungwoo :’( you’re potential was wasted. As for Byul, she gets to see Ji Han again, but, lmao that’s about it ... And the second season doesn’t even reference her trauma to flash photography, which also irritated me because that should’ve been explored more, and Ji Han could help her overcome but ... NOPE said the writers. Just like they said nope to diving into Jungwoo’s trauma in s1 ... Both Byul & Jungwoo have had traumatic experiences as idols, but that is not explored even once in s2.

Also, the overall writing of s2 doesn’t even follow the first season either, someone new came in and wrote an entirely different story and it’s like the main characters from season 1 aren’t even themselves, their names are just used and that’s it *facepalm,* the love triangle was poorly executed and obviously thrown in for a plot filler too, but it literally had no purpose, the writers could’ve written Jungwoo and Da Eun’s relationship to be healthy, but they didn’t ... I liked there were repercussions to dating an idol, which we see in ep. 1 were Jungwoo has filming or is doing other things on a strict schedule and sometimes doesn’t have time for Da Eun, which she gets mad about, that his life can mess with Eun is psychological and physical ways, I hated the writers didn’t choose to make peace with these things though, for the characters to create alternate ways of being happy TOGETHER, and making dating an idol mostly negative without lightening the positives, which is why Da Eun goes and takes Byul’s place again to talk to Jungwoo on wtf is happening with their relationship ...

Another thing I liked in the s2 besides relationship struggles was having Byul’s former group member be a villain: Luni
In s1 we get a glimpse they’re not so “happy fun times” with each other and they casted the same actress to play her in s2 which I liked, but what’s her agenda for hating Byul? Her leadership? Jealousy? That’s the only reason she gets with Eden (a character I easily forgot btw) to get back at Byul and expose Da Eun? THAT’S IT? Once again, where’s the depth, where’s the development? Nowhere to be seen ... Her character is just a b— ... The only character that gets development in this series is Da Eun, and it’s not even full development, its barely there. So besides the shitty love triangle, we get a villain we don’t give two sh— about due to terrible writing ... The true villain of this season should’ve been Jungwoo’s company tbh, that would’ve made an overall better story, SMH.

To end this lengthy review, I advise you watch s2 and see for yourself what your final thoughts are, but don’t expect a lot compared to the the first season, pains me to say it .. :’(((

Nothing special but sweet

Not going to lie the second one was better than I expected. I think they did well with touching on the bad side of idol life, even though I am not sure it was completely accurate. They sure introduced a lot more idol actors. Seo Jisoo as Daeun and Byul from Lovelyz; Shin Jun Seop as Han Jung Woo from MYTEEN; Park Seo Ham as Eden from KNK; and Bae Woo Hee as Yoo Hwa In from Dalshabet and Uni.T. The acting was fine. The visuals were strong. Overall, DO NOT RECCOMEND unless you have really nothing to watch.

a repetition of s1

the story and the pace were EXACTLY like s1. byul didn't want to do variety shows so she switched places with daeun and the evil bully teammate still bullied her while they added another guy bully and a male saesang ;/

for one thing Shin Jun Seop and Park Bo Yeon can't act. their dialogues are awkward and their expressions are frozen. it didn't help that they gave Park Bo Yeon weird contact lenses and that just made her 0o0 expression worse..

Lee Ki Taek was better but after a certain point his character got creepy, there's a fine line between flirting and being clingy. for one he was smart so he knew she was dating Jung Woo and she friend zoned him several times while also telling him "no I'm not interested in you" but he kept using their work for skinship ;/

and when Yoo Hwa In seemed like the most normal one she turned out to be in a one sided crush with jungwoo too, and sure she didn't act on it or get jealous but at the end she seemed desperate to tell him "I like you but sadly you're taken"

also the things the saesang said was alarming. is it just for conflict or is what kfans really think? becasue they shouldn't normalize that. idols are not puppets or avatars...

jisoo was the best part but again it was just too similar to s1 but with a more solid relationship, atleast the fans and the media left them alone

similar to season one

I watched the season one and the season 2 was automatically into my recommendation. So without further ado I clicked onto it.

Story
So in last season we saw that Da Eun and Jung woo end up together and now they are secretly dating. So its almost a year
Days goes by and its Da Eu birthday and she is stood up by Jungwoo, adding more she cant make a contact with him. She turns to ask help from Kim Byul.
Kim byul is asked to do a variety tv show about making songs which she doesn't want to do and once again turn to Da Eun.
Da eun gets to know that Han Jungwoo will also participate in the show so she agrees for switching places for ONE FINE WEEK.

Plot View
The plot is really similar to the season one but it doesn't make you feel like it. ML and FL are meeting in the show and their romance continues while overcoming all the obstacles.
Am not a fan of triangle love story and Do hyun was made a third wheel in the story.
The evil bully teammate still plays tricks on Kim byul and another male bully is added to Jung Woo. He takes up the things until the end because of his jealousies.
There is also progression relationship as sparks fly between Kim Byul and Ji han.
Many said that its same as season1, yes it is but does a problem we have solved doesn't reoccur. It does and Idols as they have their glamourous life they also have a personal life, so its a curse also to be popular.

Acting
Jisoo as Jung Da Eun is amazing she doesn't take shit crap and believes in his love. The faith she shows in Jungwoo despite not being able to contact was excellent.
Jisoo as Kim Byul is did great in season two. She takes up her arena and faces everything. She even goes on to dive on her love life
Shin Jun Seop as Han JungWoo is amazing like in season1 while being haunted by stalker fans he found happiness with Da eun.
Lee ki taek as Seo Dohyun is really good in portraying this character. His expressions were amazing.

Music
Song and BGM were done beautifully. they ensembled beautifully in the series

Rewatch
I would rewatch just the romantic parts.

Cute continuation of the story

The romance continues...I have to be honest, I didn't care for this one as much as the first, but I do have to give them props for trying to make their relationship work at all costs. I just didn't care for the "mean girls" vibe - the people that will do anything to ruin someone else's life just so they can get ahead. However, I LOVED Woohee and Lee Ki Taek as the secondary characters. These characters were those we, unfortunately, don't see too often in K-dramas, they like someone, but the other person's happiness is what is most important to them. They liked someone, they were nice to them and looked out for their best interests. I'm one that doesn't like a lot of angst, so I really appreciated these characters. I loved their scenes with the male lead and the female lead. Shin Jun Seop is just a ball of cuteness, and boy can he sing!

A good season two

This follow-up is pretty consistent with the themes from the first season, so there's not much to say. To be honest the plot of putting the FL and ML together in a variety show again was forced, but still there was a positive message and some concerning and difficult aspects of the idol life were approached again, not to mention the intercetions between the leads gave us some pretty cute and also angsty scenes, so overall, if you liked the first season, it's highly likely you'll enjoy this one as well.

Nothing too special but cute drama!

I will try my best not to spoil too much with my in-depth review, but if you haven't watched season 2, don't expect too much from it and for it to be different from season 1. I'm going to be making some comparisons though with both seasons. If i do have anything I say wrong, please let me know! (my bad memory)

Story: the storyline was nothing too special, just like the first season. This isn't a huge spoiler as it is a given from the season 2 preview but yes, it t repeated the switching again, and going on a variety show but except with more characters and not just focused on Junseop (Jungwoo) and Jisoo (Daeun/Byeol). I feel like this drama could've shown more about the stories of each individual, I mean yes they were there, but it felt too bland to me. I get it, it's a short web drama, but more detail about the character's could've been given other than their feelings of love, hatred, jealousy, etc. Now here is a possible spoiler to those who haven't finished it yet. For the last episode, I really enjoy it because of how cute jungwoo and daeun are, but I wish they would've showed what Eden, Dohyun, Hwain and Luni were doing after the variety show ended. The last episode focused too much on Daeun and Jungwoo, which I personally don't mind, but generally speaking, I wish that we at least get to have some sort of sense as to where the antagonists and the supporting characters were. The relationship between Daeun and Jungwoo confused me a little bit at the beginning as well since she was mad at him but suddenly gave in? And Jungwoo acting cold to her at first meeting, even when he knew he wasn't able to talk to her because of his brother or something? Also I wish they let Daeun know that Jungwoo was supposed to be partners with him but instead they threw that away and just let it be. And the preview is misleading, because I still don't remember where Daeun said "Let's break up" to Jungwoo like shown in season 2 preview. (unless i'm wrong and just imagining things)

Acting/Characters: In my opinion, there wasn't much character development given to each of the characters, which is normally fine considering it is such a short drama. I'm a fan of character development for characters, and its what makes me so intrigued with whatever drama I'm watching, but the characters didn't really do much to help themselves. For example, Luni and Eden just stayed as the antagonists from start to end, and like mentioned, it would have been great to see if anything was going on after the bad things they done on the show. Is Eden out of his dad's company? Is he abroad or something? Is Luna also out of her company already? (considering she had her contract expiring or something, and was supposed to go to Eden's company). So much unanswered questions for the character! All the characters really just stayed the same. For the acting, I personally think they are all great actors in their own way. Of course, there is room left to improve to become even better, since most of them I assume hasn't been in many dramas, but they know how to show the chemistry amongst one another which is something I noticed! (especially with Jisoo and Junseop) I never would've expected these two to be co-stars together and I've known them both for a while because of their kpop groups.

Overall: The OSTs for this drama aka the songs from this whole drama was amazing! I enjoyed hearing Woohee and Junseop's voice together, as well as Gitaek and Jisoo! All are amazing singers really, and I've known all of the idols (except gitaeok) to know that they can show their talent effortlessly even in acting. It was quite a cute, cliche drama, and since I don't mind watching the typical cliche plots, I'm not complaining too much about this drama, other than the fact that the whole storyline could've been better and had potential to be better, and to further show the stories of each person a little bit more. It felt rushed in a way, and there's lot of unanswered questions I have that they never answered, so I honestly say that season 1 was better than season 2 because at least there was a story there, where Jungwoo and Daeun build their relationship, along with Byul and the other guy, and it leading to the truth of Jungwoo finding out her identity.

Second Lead Syndrome

This sequel season falls victim to one of the many tropes that sequels fall to, which is that the main couple is already together and the "new" obstacle that is introduced into the relationship is simply not as interesting as a fresh love interest who is every bit as charming AND would deal with the same obstacle better. The acting for the second lead was really good as well and he pretty much stole the show for me.

Plotwise it was okay; the switch was definitely weaker than the first season, but the variety show itself was decently fun and I think the side characters were good additions to the story.

Similar to S1, it was really Da-eun's plot that was interesting to watch; Byul's side at the cafe felt out of place and even though they wrote her "expressionlessness" into the story, her character just feels utterly bland.

Still, for a web series it's decent — it doesn't feel tropey or cringey and it's certainly fun to watch.

A good part 2

So i am liking seasons 2. Up to ep4 and the same jealousy and back stabbing done.
Just finished ep8 and Kim byul and Da eun switch place again 1 year later. Kim byul hates to do variety show, but told she has no choice and Da eun hasn't been able to talk to or find Jung wool so she called Kim byul and they agree to switch again. Now the problem is a fan stalker and how the owners son eden wants to do show, but they will only take him if Jung woo goes. He agree but eden is doing everything to expose Jung woo relationship with Kim byul. As the group of 6 get together they start to notice Kim byul is different especially luni and she teams up with eden to figure out the truth as she noticed that she acted like that a year ago. Do Hyun is partner with Kim byul and he finds out she is still dating Jung woo but still tells her that he likes her but she turns him down and they are still partners. Woo Jung is partnered with Hwa in and she has a crunch on him and knows he's truly in love with Byul so stays his friend and helps him. So eden and luni fail in there mission and so he bails on there deal and she calls his father to complain. He and his dad fight over woo Jung who more important and so eden brings Kim byul and Da eun on stage and this is where there true story is told. The cast, song and story were grest a must see

Not as good as first season

If you are going into this drama expecting it to be as good as or even better than the first season, prepare to be disappointed.

Though this season is not a total disappointment, it just doesn't hit the spot like the first season does, Unnecessary breakup and misunderstandings. Also sort of draggy unlike the first season where you were hooked the whole way through.

If you liked the first season, diffidently give it a try but don't hold your expectations too high.

But the whole cast was total eye candy so if you liked that then watch it LOL
