12-year old Ann Uekusa's parents are getting a divorce, so Ann and her mother move to her mother's old hometown, Shiname. Ann feels that the people in the countryside are friendly to an excess, to the point where she can't have any privacy at all. But she meets Daigo, a boy who lives nearby, and he gradually helps her get used to life in Shiname. However, her mother faints at work, and...!? ~~ Adapted from the manga series “Sand Chronicles” (砂時計) by Ashihara Hinako (芦原妃名子). Edit Translation

To anyone asking why I and others cried - this is all I can say: No, it didn't have a sad ending it had a happy one - we're not used to it; plus it was happy happy. :) I think some of us cried out of shock that no one died and the world didn't end.....

There were moments the more emotional of us might shed a tear, but certainly not the kind that would leave you a tearstained snotty mess, surrounded with a truckload of used tissues and wishing you had shares in Kleenex.

The acting was really good - perhaps not to A-list standard but, for me at least, it made the story more believable. I really liked it and would certainly rewatch it. I'd give it a solid 3 bars of chocolate out of 5 for the fact that it's a good story and no sad ending - those of a emotional nature that do not like tearjerkers can watch this in safety....unless you're liable to cry out of shock that no one dies from a random act of violence, disease or even a paper cut at the end......

I only gave this movie a 7 because I didn't get into it as much as I'd of liked. I originally read the manga, and this movie left a lot out, although it managed to keep the important scenes. I do not think this is a bad movie, though. I do want to watch the drama, as it's 6O episodes and should make up for what was left out of the movie (although the drama isn't listed on here for some reason). There wasn't any music to be noted in this movie. I might watch this movie again later on, but at the moment it stands as just another movie.

If you've never read the manga you'll probably like this movie if you like stories about growing older and stories about life. The movie is a little fast paced, and things seem to happen quickly. Ann and her mother move into a countryside town that was her mother's original hometown. The story is about Ann's life.
