Gangnam 1970 (2015)

Both of the movies are showcased in the backdrop of 1970 South Korea and focuses on the darker side of society.

Both men grew up poor orphanage.
They walked separate past.
Their lives intertwined.
Lots of action, tragedy, ….

Story about two brothers grow up ophanage, poor and struggling. One driffed to the evil side. Their relationship broke. Deep story, heartwarming

The New World is probably one of the best Korean gangster films I've seen so far and I've seen a ton of them so if you watched Gangnam 1970 and liked it watch The New World.

Just that gangster theme and ironically homelessness was a big factor as well....but definitely gangsters galore=)

Both have Lee Min Ho as the male lead and both have action in it.
They both have a similar tone to it, but Gangnam 1970 doesn't have a lot of comedy and doesn't have a lot of romance.

A film also from Yoo Ha doing what he does best. Both films are set on the past, but the main lead's story are different.

Kim Rae Won in both movie. He played gangster, unwilling force into tough position. Gentle eyes, brotherhood, royalty, strategy, …

Both show the gritty side of The Republic of South Korea as it developed. Though, The King takes place 20 years later when transitioning from a dictatorship to a democracy took place. Corruption plagued both eras.
