**Warning: Major Spoilers**
[Hana Yori Dango 2, Nice Guy, Koizora, Shut Up Flower Boy Band, and more]
My stay in Dramaland is short but eventful so far. Here everyone loves pink bubblegum, baby-butt skin for girls-/boys-/ahjummas-/ahjusshies-alike (and babies, Duh!) and BRANDS, brands everywhere! But even in this holy land of Ikemen, I’m plagued with nightmares! They come silently forcing me back into the decaying mother earth every once in a while. Again what chance does this material world hold against Dramaland? So I come back, again and again, and the endless nightmares never cease to stalk me. The followings are a few nightmares I experienced so far, and yes, if you haven’t watched the drama beforehand, this will most definitely SPOIL them for you.
MY WORST NIGHTMARES!
These are the ones that send shivers down your spine. I’m giving this example because I hate shivers, and more so if on the spine. These are the deal breakers for me; if they appear, I run wholeheartedly in the opposite direction!
Hana Yori Dango 2: Domiyouji Tsukasa's Amnesia Attack
What?! You don't know me? Since the last two weeks!.................... Oh, amnesia! Gomen!
If I am Neil Armstrong and the Moon is Dramaland, then Hana Yori Dango is my Apollo 11. So with all its shiny Ikemens, tail coats, Flower 4 as a gang name for guys and million dollar gags, I loved it! I embraced it with all my heart. The problem started in the beginning of the second season. The NYC beginning and “The Homies” were...well, I kind of turned a blind eye. But there’s a limit to my patience and may I add it’s very limited. When Tsukasa got amnesia… BAM! My first nightmare came to life!
The events following were as such:
Me pulling the power plug brutally, going to sleep at 1AM (Natural bed time is 4-5AM or NO sleep) and yakusoku with my inner self never to watch the last two episodes of HYD2!
Innocent Man: The Whole Last Episode
Complicated...smh...What was that? Woh kya tha?! Is it a new series with the same cast? Ani. Is it the first episode of season two? o_O Or did I miss a few episodes in between??
It was none of the above. Then someone please explain me why do I have to read a three-page long interview of Song Joong Ki to understand "The Meaning“ (Bless thy soul!) of the last episode? Even that was more meaningless than class notes on urban planning. And to make matters worse, it’s the only drama I watched with my younger sister, and when she asked me what was going on, I could only make faces and shout “Shut up and WATCH!”
Yeah, that was quite a nightmare!!
Boys Over Flowers: Beachside Kissing Scene Between Jan Di and Ji Hoo
Talk about photographic evidence!!
As if it isn’t enough that Jun Pyo is her BF. Now Ji Hoo also is going after her! HER! I know the story; I’m a HYD veteran so why am I like this? Trust me, I have my reason and that is Jan Di, "The Shrike Box!" My initial thought was to write Jan Di’s existence as my nightmare (trust me, it is!). But I can’t deny one’s existence just because of her inability to make a noise lower than C sharp.
I would’ve forgiven it all if it was a decent kiss. But no, the girl can’t even kiss! So there isn’t going to be a decent kissing scene even if I endure this crappy female lead? Most definitely NO! (Did I tell you about my patience before?)
TIP: With such a pretty face, it's better to be a leviathan, than a dormouse... Looks like even for you, it's a once in a lifetime chance?
My Favorite Nightmares
Then there are those nightmares that left a scar and a heavy feeling in your chest, but you move forward. Such are these for me, even after they appeared, I moved on and glad that I did so.Koizora: Hiro's Cancer
Oh Hiro~~ The cutie pie...Why did you have to die?!................... GAH! Such lousiness!! >.<
I started this drama rather blindly, not knowing what’s going to happen next. It was full of angst, the emotions are basic and raw. Though being a well known sadist, I actually wanted the leads, Hiro and Mika, to be together - they have gone through so much. Hiro’s cancer came as a shock for me. I was heartbroken because it was no big deal to guess the ending then since it’s a Jdrama! But I watched it till the end gladly so.
...And I am also one of those who prefers the drama version of Koizora over the movie.
Shut Up! Flower Boy Band: Byung Hee's Death
STOP LAUGHING, YOU SON OF A BISCUIT!! XD
He is my favorite character in Dramaland so far, my Korean Jack Sparrow, my Rocker Edward Scissor hand. And guess what, he died, crushed like a pumpkin and DIED in EPISODE 2! No vegetative state, no coma, right in the bull’s eye. I was devastated, stopped watching SUFBB! (Continued others, not THAT devastating!)
But somehow I started watching it again, and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. The rest of the characters are awesome and “Jaywalking” is the first Korean track I ever downloaded! (Or was it Gangnam?) I followed Sung Joon and the rest happily for 14 episodes, but honestly if it was Byung Hee, I would’ve followed a 100 episodes!
So, why is it in the favorite section? I still wish that Byung Hee's death never happened, but because the output wasn't so bad, I decided to list it as favorite! (Curse you, conscience!)
So that's it; my first article on nightmares. I love the sad stuff anyway! ;)
Most of the examples are uber-popular and my view isn't necessarily the same as others -- no hard feelings. So, do you agree with my choices? If not, what would your choices be?
