Good Doctor Episode 7

Eun Ok’s room has mysteriously been left unlocked and she’s been cornered by security guards in the hall. However the truth behind what happened isn’t so mysterious with Il-Gyu watching on suspiciously. The security guard close in to restrain Eun Ok and Shi On rushes up and begins fighting against the guards to get Eun Ok, accidentally hitting one of them in the face. The other doctors wrestle Shi On away, meanwhile Eun Ok’s face scrunches in pain and she faints.


Do Han and Yoon Seo believe that Eun Ok’s abscess may have opened, and they rush her away for emergency surgery. Do Han yells at Shi On, who insists he didn’t leave the door open.
 
Yoon Seo stands outside of the operating room and apologizes to Do Han, believing that she too is at fault for what happened. Do Han tells her that it’s not her job to apologize on Shi On’s behalf and sends her into the operating room.


The sonogram proves that the abscess did indeed open, the spreading pus could be deadly, so Do Han begins the surgery immediately.


Dr. Choi is notified of what happened via telephone. He looks on with a sad puppy-like expression as Ye-Eun’s mother fusses over the fact that her daughter was hurt by Eun Ok and threatens to bring her daughter to a different hospital.


Meanwhile Shi On is being scolded by Dr. Go, throughout it all Shi On insists that he didn’t leave the door open. Dr. Choi comes in and asks Dr. Go to let him speak to Shi On in private.


Shi On tells Dr. Choi that he didn’t leave the door open and that he didn’t hit that security guard because he doesn’t hit people (or even like being hit). Shi On is clearly upset by this entire situation, and Dr. Choi squeezes his hand. Dr. Choi explain to Shi On that even if it isn’t his fault, Shi On will have to take responsibility for what happened.


The situation comes to the hospital’s Executive Committee, and Dr. Choi says that he will have to let Shi On go. Dr. Go mentions that Dr. Choi once said he would resign if Shi On was fired, but Chae Kyung interrupts him and says they should focus on the problem at hand today. Dr. Kim tells Chae Kyung that this isn’t any of her business, and she’s overstepping the bounds of her position but she insists that as part of the Executive Committee she has a right to speak her mind. Dr. Choi cuts the bickering short by announcing that he will resign as promised. Hyun Tae announces that Shi On will be let go today, but there will be a Board meeting later to discuss whether or not Dr. Choi should leave his position as director.


Later, Chae Kyung tells Hyun Tae that recently she’s been feeling like he’s supporting Shi On and Dr. Choi. Hyun Tae denies that he’s doing anything of the sort.


Over the phone, Yeo Won promises to buy Dr. Choi some time at the Board meeting, at least until their sponsorship problems can be sorted out.


Eun Ok’s surgery ends successfully, but she will still need to be observed closely in the future.


Do Han receives a call from Chae Kyung who tells him about the Executive Committee’s decision.


Shi On finds Yoon Seo and asks her about how Eun Ok’s surgery went. He tells her that he really didn’t leave the door open, and that he doesn’t know how to lie, even if Dr. Choi and Do Han keep saying it was his fault. When Shi On asks Yoon Seo if she believes him, she avoids his question and tells him to go back to the office.


Do Han tries to convince Dr. Choi to not resign, but Dr. Choi insists on keeping his promise. Do Han is clearly pleading with his mentor not to go, but Dr. Choi tells him to stop. Dr. Choi thanks Do Han for all of the effort he put in during this time, clearly his decision is final.
 
Meanwhile Dr. Go and Dr. Kim discuss how Dr. Go’s brother-in-law is a shoo-in to replace Dr. Choi. Dr. Kim wants to know what’s in it for Dr. Go, but the latter insists it’s nothing. Dr. Kim can see through his ruse and guesses correctly, because of this Dr. Go will be made the Director of one of their branch hospitals.


Do Han walks in without even knocking. He tells Dr. Go and Dr. Kim that he won’t let their petty power struggle continue any longer. He tells them that what goes around comes around, and just like they’re trying to oust their sunbae, one day they themselves will be ousted by hubaes.


Hyun Tae visits the security team to review the security cameras in order to find out once and for all who opened Eun Ok’s door. The security officer tells him that there aren’t any CCTVs in that area, so it’s impossible to see who it was. They can, however, find out who were the last 10 people who used their IDs to scan into that door. Hyun Tae asks the officer to investigate without letting anyone know what he’s doing.


Do Han is upset that Dr. Choi is leaving, and blames the entire situation on the fact that Shi On was brought into their hospital. Chae Kyung tells Do Han all he has is passion, not the power to change anything.


Dr. Choi comes to find Shi On in the office and tells him to go home. Resident Sun Joo overhears as Dr. Choi tells Shi On not to come back to the hospital.
 
Sun Joo rushes to the nurses’ station to tell them what she overheard.


Do Han catches Shi On on his way to say goodbye to Yoon Seo.Do Han, clearly upset and still blaming Shi On, tells him just to leave. His parting words of advice to Shi On are “don’t think you can accomplish something by yourself” and “live a life that is suitable for you condition”.


In his office, Dr. Choi looks at the photos he has together with Shi On and cries like a father who finds himself in a position where he cannot protect his son.


Yoon Seo rushes into the office and when she finds Shi On is missing, she tries to call him. He rejects the call and instead silently checks on Eun Ok from outside of her room.



Yoon Seo sees Shi On leaving the hospital and she calls his name but he doesn’t turn around. She cries as she watches him leave, but thinks to herself that maybe Shi On will be better off now.


While walking home, Shi On turns back to the hospital and apologizes to his brother for losing this opportunity. He silently promises to become a doctor one day.


Do Han looks a Megaminx (I had to look up this word xD It’s like a Rubik’s cube but with 12 sides) and, most likely remembering his brother, thinks: “Don’t try to take on the world Park Shi On. If you can avoid it, avoid it. If you can hide, hide.”
 
Shi On turns instinctively when an ambulance passes by but forces himself to continue on his route home.


Yoon Seo sits beside Eun Ok as she regains consciousness.She reaches out to touch Eun Ok’s head, but Eun Ok shrinks back away from her reach. Yoon Seo remembers what Shi On said about making a connection with an animal. Yoon Seo places her hand on Eun Ok’s shoulder and Eun Ok grabs Yoon Seo’s hand in return. Eun Ok begins to tremble as she hears her aunt making a ruckus in the hallway.


The aunt is upset because she never consented for Eun Ok to have surgery. The aunt says she was merely released from jail with a warning. The aunt claims she did nothing wrong, since she’s been feeding and raising for Eun Ok this entire time.


Nurse Joo Yeon says that Eun Ok can only be released once her treatment is complete. The aunt insists on take Eun Ok with her now. Yoon Seo snaps, saying the aunt will only continue treating Eun Ok like a dog. The aunt tells them it’s her business and she can treat her niece however she wants. This time is Nurse Joo Yeon who raises her voice and tells the aunt just to give Eun Ok up for adoption.


The situation gets heated, and before a physical fight breaks out between the women, Nurse Jung Mi guides the aunt away. When he’s outside of earshot from everyone else, he gives the aunt a threatening look and tells her she’s dead meat if she ever comes back. Maybe he was a gangster before he became a nurse, he looks like he means business.


Eun Ok is nervously clawing at her bed, and Nurse Jung Mi laments that if only Shi On were there, he’s be able to comfort her in this situation.


In Hae asks Sun Joo where Shi On is and Sun Joo says he quit. In Hae sees through the lie and knows right away he was fired. She calls Shi On, and when he doesn’t answer she sends him a message saying that she’s really sick. He calls her to ask how she is and she puts on an act, saying her heart hurts. He asks, “are you lying to me?” and she asks him where he is.


Ye Eun is upset that Shi On is gone, and when the other kids say negative things about him she defends Shi On. They see In Hae sneak passed, clearly dressed to leave the hospital.


Yoon Seo looks at what was once Shi On’s desk and Do Han walks into the office. He asks her if she heard about Shi On and she tells him that even though she saw him leave, she couldn’t tell him what she wanted to say. She wanted to tell him to apologize so he could stay, but in the end she convinced herself that this is what was best for Shi On in the end.


Yoon Seo sees the pot that came from Shi On’s mother in the corner and goes to visit her. Yoon Seo asks if the woman has any family members, and the latter’s facial expression alone makes her apologize right away for asking such a personal question. The woman says she has a husband and a son, both of whom are very far away. When she asks about Shi On, Yoon Seo doesn’t let her know that he was fired.




Shi On sits sating at a robot in a children’s museum and wonders to himself why no one believes him. He’s surprised when In Hae shows up and she asks who he came here of all places. Shi On explains that robots listen to him and believe him no matter what he says.


Yoon Seo meets with Dr. Choi, who explains to her that Shi On can’t lie as a result of his autism. Even though Dr. Choi has tried to teach him, he was never successful. Yoon Seo asks about Shi On’s parents and Dr. Choi reveals that Shi On was abandoned by them at age 8, and since then Dr. Choi has raised him. To this day Shi On doesn’t even remember his parents and chooses instead just to remember the positive memories of his brother. In a sense Shi On is like Peter Pan, trapped in that moment when he was 8 years old.


In Hae and Shi On are at a restaurant, In Hae can’t eat the food but she says the smell alone makes her feel full. In Hae tries to cheer Shi On up by telling him he can become a doctor in another hospital.


Hyun Tae looks at the list of people who came into Eun Ok’s room, and the last person who came in was none other than Il Gyu.


In the office Sun Joo says it feels wrong to let Shi On go like that. Il Gyu thinks it’s good that Shi On is gone, and even though Jin Wook says he isn’t upset, his actions suggest he feels guilty about what happened.


As In Hae tries to sneak back into her hospital room, she gets caught by Jin Wook. She says she was just out getting some fresh air, and he scolds her for leaving for 3 hours without even answering her cell phone when he tried to call her. His worry seems to transcend the bounds of just being her doctor; he appears to care for her like a parent or older brother would. He tells her to be more careful in the future or her sister will worry about her. In Hae asks Jin Wook if he’s just going to give up on her sister like that, and tells him she hates guys who give up easily.


Shi On sits alone in his house, Yoon Seo walks by but sees the lights off. She decides to come into the apartment anyway, and finds him sitting there in the dark. She tells him to follow her and when he asks where they’re going she tells him “the library”.


It turns out Library (doseogwan) is the name of bar we saw Do Han and Chae Kyun hate a date in in a previous episode. Yoon Seo introduces Shi On to the owner, but he seems to have already heard quite a bit about Shi On already.


Shi On admits that he’s never had alcohol, even when his upperclassmen offered it to him in college he didn't drink. When Yoon Seo asks if he’ll drink if she offers it to him, he says he will.


(And he has the cutest expression after he drinks it)
 
Yoon Seo tells Shi On clearly that she believes him, but that not everyone else will. She tries to convince Shi On to switch his medical specialty, perhaps to radiology. Shi On however, insists that he must become a pediatric surgeon. Yoon Seo tells him to drink everything in the bar tonight and get completely drunk tonight. She promises to get him home safely.


So of course Shi On ends up having to piggyback Yoon Seo home. She wonders why Shi On isn’t drunk even though he drank more than she did. (Uh, he’s quite larger than you are… you’re a doctor and all this should be obvious xD) She tells him he should swear sometimes, and then she begins shouting out profanities. Someone in an apartment up above recognizes her voice and asks, “You again?” It seems she’s a regular drunken swear-er in the neighborhood. After some sassy exchanges between the two of them, the man threatens to come outside and Yoon Seo tells Shi On to run quickly.



Yoon Seo is asleep by the time they get to her apartment, so Shi On lays her down on her bed. As he turns to leave he hears her mumble, “Shi On, it’s fine even if you cause trouble everyday. It would be nice if you didn’t leave. Don’t go.” Shi On pets her head in response.


The next day Il Gyu is called into Hyun Tae’s office. Hyun Tae looks over Il Gyu’s transcript and essentially laughs at how poor his grades are. There was a point when his grades when up dramatically, and (who would’ve guessed) his adviser is none other than Dr. Go. Hyun Tae cuts right to the chase and asks Il Gyu why he left the door open. Il Gyu denies it but Hyun Tae knows the truth.


Shi On is packing and preparing to go back to his hometown to stay with the children at the orphanage. He leaves his apartment and Yoon Seo calls him. She asks why he’s leaving so early, and he says that he thought it would be better if he left when she wasn’t around. She promises to come visit him when she’s on vacation and they say their final goodbyes.


The doctors check up on Eun Ok, but when Il Gyu tries to leave she grabs him by his lab coat. She knows he’s the one who left the door open.


Hyun Tae brings the evidence that it was Il Gyu who left the door open to Dr. Choi. Hyun Tae tells him that he wants Shi On and Dr. Choi to stay at the hospital, as long as he agrees to support Hyun Tae in the future.


Shi On’s mother has been discharged and brings food to the nurses’ station again. When she asks about Shi On, she hears that she’s been fired.


Yoon Seo explains to Shi On’s mother why he doesn’t recognize her and finds out that she’s been following him around since he was in medical school. Shi On’s other wants to keep her identity a secret for now.


Shi On video calls Eun Ok and promises to bring her to his hometown once she’s discharged. She cries as he says goodbye to her and reaches out towards him, touching his image on the phone.


Do Han asks Yoon Seo whether or not their order of a pediatric robodoc (it’s a robotic machine used for surgery) has come.


When he realizes Chae Kyung has cancelled the order, he goes to her to ask why. Do Han says it’s impossible for them to use an adult sized robodoc on the children, and his department is willing to take a pay cut for it. Chae Kyung insists it isn’t in the budget and that he should talk to Hyun Tae.


Do Han confronts Hyun Tae about the budget problem, but since the pediatrics department doesn’t make a lot of profit, few people are willing to invest in it. Hyun Tae says he’s like a doctor for businesses; his job is to “take care of “ the sick (unprofitable) departments. Hyun Tae tells Do Han he has something else to tell him… but what exactly he says isn’t shown to us.


Eun Ok’s aunt returns, this time with a police officer. She insists on taking Eun Ok, but Yoon Seo won’t let her go without proper documentation from the police and until the treatment is complete. The aunt tells her that there’s an ambulance outside waiting to transfer Eun Ok to a hospital in their neighborhood. The police officer tries to keep the peace as the aunt and Yoon Seo begin to fight.


Suddenly Shi On appears and insists that the aunt cannot take Eun Ok.
Yeah. Even his angry face is adorable.
