Episode 8 Recap
http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/39c/416795556830517876_419c5cc3_f.jpg

Gong Shil reaches out and touches Joong Won’s face. She asks if he feels anything. He takes her hand and puts it over his heart and asks her if she really thinks he’s just an air-raid shelter made out marble.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/san/416798695258894598_7346b71a_f.jpg

Her response is along the lines of “So you feel something here (in the chest area) too?”

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/0wv/419444390380471244_afdffb60_f.jpg

He lets go of her hand and says: “You touch me too randomly”

Wait, what? You two were having a moment here and then it ended and my heart is so confused.

He tells Gong Shil that he doesn’t like it when people suspect that they’re in a relationship and he wants them to just be friendly while working together. Touching his hand is okay, but the face and heart are off limits.

Gong Shil promises to be more careful of how she acts around him in the future. He also reminds her to be careful not to get hurt around ghosts in the future.

Joong Won offers to bring her home but she refuses, citing that her radar “has caught something strange”. He offers his hand to her but she declines that as well. She’s starting to become aware of her feelings for Joong Won and wants to maintain a distance from him, but he misinterprets this as her having feelings for Kang Woo.

He grabs her hand (out of jealousy) and tells her that if Kang Woo sees them he’ll tell him not to worry about them and just leave. With that he pulls Gong Shil along.

Meanwhile Kang Woo is reporting the newest information about Joong Won and Gong Shil at the police station. After finding the information on Hee Joo in Gong Shil’s office, he now thinks the two may somehow know each other. Joong Won is told by the Chairman that if he isn’t sure about how he feels, the pain will give him an answer.

He’s decided to put aside his feelings for Gong Shil, and picks up the two plushies and brings them to the garbage can outside.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/eew/419453805665601410_d356f259_f.jpg

While he’s there he sees Gong Shil being dropped off. She reminds him to eat tofu (as tradition prescribes) since the two of them were in jail after all. He insists that he doesn’t eat things like that. After the car leaves Gong Shil reminds herself: I’m not Candy (the main character of the manga Candy Candy), I’m a radar.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/6yd/419456944093978132_701f4a80_f.jpg

At home Joong Won complains to himself about how since he met Gong Shil, he’s been taking anti-anxiety medication daily. When he opens the fridge he sees a plate of cheese and decides it looks close enough to tofu.

He sits on his couch eating wine and cheese (call me crazy but I would’ve preferred tofu myself xD) and remembers Gong Shil touching his face.

http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/d0x/419466359379108298_330cc5dd_f.jpgMeanwhile Gong Shil sits in her bed eating tofu. She talks to her plushie about what she did earlier, and says it’s just as bad as touching someone’s butt on the bus. She feels something on her shoulder and turns to see the Supermarket Grandmother Ghost. She asks the ghost to scare her a little to bring her back to her senses.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/uvt/419469497807485020_902a25d2_f.jpg

Joong Won’s aunt and uncle come into his living room. They know all about the circumstances surrounding Joong Won’s stint in jail. His aunt warns him that even his father is suspicious of his relationship with Gong Shil. Joong Won wonders who has been keeping his father updated and assumes it’s his uncle. Joong Won facetiously says: who knows, maybe his father with have a grandchild through this “meaningless skinship” he shares with Gong Shil.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/1is/419472636235861742_e35183ad_f.jpg

Gong Shil sorts recycling in her apartment building and the grandmother is still trying to scare her. Kang Woo comes downstairs to go out for a run and before he leaves he stops to tell Gong Shil that he doesn’t like her…

>_< You hear that? It’s the sound of hearts breaking.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/nh1/419475774664238464_58d99448_f.jpg

She’s embarrassed and upset that he doesn’t like her. He tells her he shouldn’t have to apologize to her since she never liked him anyway. He repeats what he said earlier, about getting the answer for how you feel from the pain you experience.
 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/9aj/419478913092615186_77b82238_f.jpg
And then he goes off on his run. He stops for a moment and places is hand over his heart… and then continues off again.

If only I ran every time I was upset…

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/pjv/419482051520991908_dd063c4d_f.jpg

At the Kingdom Hotel (because every mall needs an affiliated resort, right?) guests swim and play in the rooftop pool. A ghost suddenly grabs the ankle of one of the guests, dragging her underwater. A lifeguard rushes in to save her and the scene cuts to Joong Won receiving a report about the incident from his uncle.

It’s the third incident of this kind, his uncle jokes that maybe a water ghost is behind it.
 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/319/419488328377745352_ee4c152b_f.jpg
Joong Won finds Gong Shil to tell her he has a job for her. When she turns around he notices her huge under-eye circles. She asks if she looks sick and he admits, “You always look sick.” But today is especially worse. She looks like a zombie.

Isn’t that… charming (?) of you.

When he mentions water ghosts in front of her she cowers in fear. Once while she was with her sister she was almost drowned by a water ghost. Even if Joong Won hold her hand, it won’t help against a water ghost.
 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/sw2/419491466806122074_e94a05e9_f.jpg
Back in his office, Joong Won tries to think of a way to indirectly get Gong Shil to check out the water ghost problem. His plan is to give her a gift certificate for a weekend in the hotel and, once she’s already there, tell her about the ghost.

Gong Shil invites her older sister to come with her to the hotel and the two of them are giddy with excitement over the prospect of staying in such a fancy hotel. Gong Shil’s sister asks if they should invite Kang Woo too, but Gong Shil tells her that isn’t a good idea.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/znf/419497743662875518_9ecc3477_f.jpg

Kang Woo meets with Yi Ryung and asks her to find out information about Gong Shil’s parents. She tries and fails again to ask him out to dinner. I’m starting to feel bad for the girl, he sure is playing hard to get.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/x7d/419500882091252240_632beb94_f.jpg

Joong Won asks Secretary Kim if he’s been in contact with his father, still suspicious that there’s a mole in his company. The answer, of course, is no. Joong Won’s father was never interested in his girlfriends before… the situation smells fishy now that he’s suddenly interested in Gong Shil.

Gong Shil arrives at the hotel first and calls her sister to tell her to come as soon as she gets off of work. Joong Won’s uncle’s secretary asks where she’s going and Gong Shil’s sister avoids the question. I guess everyone around here is a spy for someone.

Gong Shil’s sister meets Han Joo and asks him to bring Kang Woo to the hotel. This is all part of her plan to bring Gong Shil and Kang Woo together. If things go well she promises to treat Han Joo to a meal.

Oh no this is going to end horribly!

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/ilx/419504020519628962_cfd9dfaf_f.jpg

Gong Shil explores the hotel alone and sees a sign for a fireworks show that night. She wants to go but she’s afraid to go out at night. She gets a call from Joong Won, who ends up being at the hotel too. All part of his plan…

http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/0zx/419510297376382406_06ec5b5f_f.jpghttp://media.mydramalist.com/cache/4tt/419507158948005684_defcb1e8_f.jpgHe invites her to eat with him and promises to buy whatever she wants. A hotel employee tells him that the pool will be closed off after dinner like he requested. All of the employees assume Joong Won is planning a romantic event so he and Gong Shil can see the fireworks together at the pool.

WRONG!

Secretary Kim and Joong Won’s aunt visit the orphanage where Hee Joo grew up. The woman who runs the orphanage thanks her for visiting every year on the anniversary of Hee Joo’s death.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/801/419513435804759128_3b8a7204_f.jpg

It’s revealed that Joong Won’s aunt has been a patron of the orphanage for a long time, which is how Joong Won met Hee Joo in the first place. After Hee Joo’s death, his aunt had considered no longer donating to the orphanage, since in some ways if felt like she was trying to compensate for Hee Joo’s death with money. For Joong Won’s sake, however, she’s glad that she kept supporting the orphanage.
Kang Woo is also at the orphanage, looking for information to connect Hee Joo and Gong Shil. Secretary Kim recognizes him… it’s only a matter of time before Kang Woo’s secret will be discovered.

The orphanage director looks at the photos of Gong Shil and her sister (Gong Ri) and says with confidence that they never were in her orphanage.

Han Joo insists on coming to the hotel too even though he didn’t bring Kang Woo with him. Han Joo notices that Gong Ri and another customer at the gas station have the same key chain in their car. It turns out to be her ex-boyfriend, one who took her money and ran away. She decides to follow him when he drives off.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/qve/419516574233135850_aede2dd4_f.jpg

Joong Won and Gong Shil eat dinner together. When he hears that her sister has all of her clothes, he wonders if he should prepare clothes for her (since she’ll be going in and out of the pool)

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/6h4/419522851089889294_0291a48e_f.jpg

Gong Shil hears the employees gossiping about the so-called“event” and thinks that’s the truth of the situation. When Joong Won asks to meet her in two hours, she becomes even more sure of her suspicions. There’s a knock on the door and it ends up being someone there to deliver a dress that Joong Won has prepared for her.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/vd5/419525989518266016_08b28737_f.jpg

I’m cringing at how awful this is.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/gj2/419529127946642738_ea13cd06_f.jpg

Gong Shil imagines herself wearing the dress and meeting Joong Won at the pool just in time to see the fireworks.

When she goes there in real life, she overhears Joong Won on the phone and realizes why he’s really asked her to come there.

She runs off to change out of the dress. In her room, the disappointment has her on the verge of tears.

Joong Won waits by the pool and wonder why Gong Shil ran off while wearing the dress. When an employee asks him if he needs anything like flowers or champagne, he realizes the misunderstanding.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/luf/419535404803396182_372dd593_f.jpg

He finds Gong Shil in the lobby, dressed in her shorts again. The employees whisper about Gong Shil getting kicked out the event. Joong Won suddenly grabs her hand and tells her she looked pretty how she was dressed before.

Gong Shil tries to wrench her hand away, fearing what the employees will say. He tells her he doesn’t care about what they say. He only cares about how she’s upset right now.

He tells her she looked like Candy, running away dressed like that. She tells him he should’ve just told her to use her radar and not confused her with all of those mixed signals. He apologizes, and that’s enough for her to agree to find the water ghost. The walk off holding hands and all the employees watch on and whisper.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/1wd/419538543231772904_ee1d1b47_f.jpg

Yi Ryung meets with Kang Woo to give him the information he requested. He thanks her and goes to leave but she follows after him. She offers to give him a ride home and he declines, telling her he’d rather take the subway.

The girl’s getting desperate.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/bk8/419541681660149626_a88ae831_f.jpg

Joong Won and Gong Shil sit beside the pool. She doesn’t see any ghosts and decides to go into the pool to look. Joong Won stops her, and says he’ll just have the pool drained instead. He turns and leaves but Gong Shil hears a splash in the water and gets closer to the pool. She’s about to fall in when Joong Won suddenly appears and grabs her arm. The ghost disappears.

Gong Ri follows the man to his house, but before she can get out of the car and kill him (as she says she plans on doing) his pregnant wife comes out to greet him. She decides to leave things as they are.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/9nt/419544820088526348_0460737f_f.jpg

Yi Ryung sits in disguise on the subway. Some of the fellow passengers gossip about her. She grows tired of listening to them and rips off her disguise, silencing the gossipers.

Of course that causes a group of people to swarm around her, snapping pictures with their smartphones. Kang Woo acts like her bodyguard and guides her off of the subway.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/psx/419547958516903070_4f8b1071_f.jpg

Once in the station and away from the crowd, Yi Ryung announces to Kang Woo: “I’ve decided… let’s date.”

…To which he responds, “I don’t want to” and walks off.

What can I say? It’s a rough life if you’re Tae Yi Ryung.

She shouts that he has bad manners for rejecting her so quickly, and bystanders take notice of the fact that she’s a celebrity. A crowd gathers and she can’t get out. Kang Woo suddenly comes runs back and pulls her out of the crowd. They run off hand-in-hand just like…in the dramas xD

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/w4p/419551096945279792_231eb6f7_f.jpg

http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/sz1/419557373802033236_e90a7f1e_f.jpgGong Shil realizes that their water ghost isn’t actually a water ghost. Actually she’s quite a polite ghost who most likely doesn’t even realize she’s dead. Gong Shil and Joong Won follow her around as she showers, visits the sauna, and goes to the restaurant.

http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/704/419560512230409958_e3126201_f.jpghttp://media.mydramalist.com/cache/255/419563650658786680_db081cd7_f.jpg

Joong Won tells Gong Shil to explain to the ghost that she’ sdead. She tries to approach the subject and tells the woman that she can’t stay in the hotel. In response the woman pulls out a gift certificate that looks a lot like the one Joong Won gave Gong Shil.

http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/xb4/419566789087163402_486566da_f.jpg

Joong Won and Gong Shil ask an employee about the pool ghost woman. He remembers her well because she was exceptionally excited about staying in the hotel. Joong Won and Gong Shil assume this is the reason why she’s still in the hotel after death, but the employee tells them that isn’t the case. She isn’t dead, but rather she’s in a coma in the hospital.

http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/ih9/419569927515540124_a723a730_f.jpg

Gong Shil tries to explain to the ghost (maybe spirit is more appropriate) that she needs to return to her body or else she might really die. But the woman really doesn’t want to leave the hotel. When Joong Won mentions her daughter’s name, however, her expression changes. Gong Shil is able to convince the ghost to return to her body, but first she wants to see the fireworks at the hotel.

http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/4dc/419573065943916846_7bb963de_f.jpghttp://media.mydramalist.com/cache/jjd/419576204372293568_59c9eeb6_f.jpg

Gong Shil changes into the dress that Joong Won prepared for her, and they walk arm-in-arm to the pool. The employees all watch on in amazement. Together they and the ghost watch the fireworks together. Afterwards the ghost returns to her body as promised. At the hospital, her family cries with relief when she wakes up.
 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/qoa/419582481229047012_e00d6818_f.jpg
Inside of her van, Yi Ryung reads the headlines about the subway incident. She’s especially happy about the article’s photo which is a picture of Kang Woo with his arm around her.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/hfx/419585619657423734_3374099e_f.jpg

Gong Ri pulls over to the side of the road and cries, saying she didn’t know the man was married. She looks at the key chain hanging from her rearview mirror and cries even more. Han Joo pulls the key chain off of the mirror and awkwardly reaches out to pat her back as she cries. I’m officially in love with this couple ^^

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/76t/419626419226321120_4cdcf26c_f.jpg

Kang Woo comes to the apartment building and sees the brothers Seung Mo and Seung Joon (I think that's their names? ><) playing with the dolls he threw out earlier.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/21k/419629557654697842_dfa84e8e_f.jpg

Secretary Kim and Joong Won talk about the latter’s upcoming business trip to China. He’s worried about leaving Gong Shil for a week, but Secretary Kim says she already knows. What she said in response is (as the Chairman and Kang Woo have said in this episode) “When your heart doesn’t tell the truth, pain gives the answer.”

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/k3p/419632696083074564_3426ad4a_f.jpg

Joong Won’s eyes narrow. He’s heard that line several times before… from Hee Joo.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/xke/419635834511451286_4e9b92c0_f.jpg

http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/49u/419638972939828008_299c1ba7_f.jpgThe scene flashes back to teenage Joong Won and Hee Joo together amidst the stacks of a library. She holds his face in her hands and says that exact line. He doesn’t understand the meaning, and assumes she means she only learns when she’s hit. She says that because he loves her more than she love him, it’s only fair that he hurts more than she does. He asks if that means she wants him to hurt a lot in the future and she tells him yes. She would like it if he hurts a lot.

http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/js4/419642111368204730_9081f597_f.jpg

She really creeps me out here. She’s like a “This is a paradise where I locked you up against your will. A sad paradise where you can’t leave even when you're awake,” type of creeper.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/8y5/419645249796581452_b1b1642f_f.jpg

Joong Won asks Gong Shil is Hee Joo told her that. She tells him she hasn’t seen Hee Joo since that day, and that she heard that quote from Kang Woo.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/qry/419648388224958174_609c8e56_f.jpg

Now Joong Won is suspicious of Kang Woo, and starts digging into his background. Secretary Kim tells him that he did see Kang Woo at Hee Joo’s orphanage…

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/hzn/419651526653334896_4477a937_f.jpg

Joong Won has connected the dots. His uncle was the one who hired Kang Woo, and when Joong Won asks if it was under his father’s orders—it’s clear he’s hit the nail on the head.

Joong Won confronts Kang Woo, who admits that Joong Won’s father merely wanted him to be aware of Joong Won’s surroundings. There are suspicions that someone related to Hee Joo had contacted Joong Won, and his father thinks Hee Joo is an accomplice in the incident.

http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/r8c/419654665081711618_1ca2a7df_f.jpgThe scene flashes back to a sickly looking Joong Won in his father’s office right after the kidnapping. His father asks Joong Won if he saw his captors, but the latter insists he didn’t. Joong Won suspects that his father didn’t give the ransom, which is why Hee Joo ended up being killed. His father tells him to believe what he wants.

I’m not sure whether this is the beginning of their falling out, but considering their encounter here it’s no surprise the two of them are no longer on speaking terms.

Joong Won tells Kang Woo that he wants to know why his father is suddenly interested after 15 years. He hopes his father isn’t looking for the ransomed necklace, because Joong Won is also looking for it.

Only we (the audience) know the necklace is already in the Chairman’s possession…

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/vi8/419660941938465062_d624a844_f.jpg

In Joong Won’s office, Gong Shil wonders aloud what sort of relationship Kang Woo and Hee Joo have. And the Hee Joo appears. Gong Shil crumples to her knees and holds onto his desk for support. Joong Won walks in and asks her what’s wrong.
http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/dea/419664080366841784_2f3e08e7_f.jpg

She tells him Hee Joo explained everything to her. He asks who the other culprit was, but Gong Shil tells him Hee Joo insisted on protecting that person and wouldn’t tell her the name.

 http://media.mydramalist.com/cache/lak/419667218795218506_669f9c69_f.jpg

Joong Won clutches his desk and remembers Hee Joo’s words,“I want you to hurt a lot.” Gong Shil turns to leave so he can have some privacy, but Joong Won calls out her name.

“Tae Gong Shil… don’t leave. Stay here. I don’t want her to see me like this. Since you can see her, stay here beside me and protect me.“
