A Stalker's Guide to Lee Jong Suk
I fell in love for this cute boy when I watched Secret Garden, and then forgot about him until I found School 2013. I then watched a lot of things with him, since I couldn't have enough!! He is terribly adorable, and I know I'm not the only one who thinks so... So I thought I'd share my addiction with you!!
Lee Jong Suk is a talented and terribly good-looking model, who started working in 2005. His popularity really started in 2012/2013 when he acted in popular dramas School 2013 and I Hear Your Voice, but he was there before, waiting for us to fall in love with him...
WHERE IT ALL STARTED... FOR HIM: PROSECUTOR PRINCESS
Chubby assistant era
Lee Jong Suk's acting career started in 2010 with the drama Prosecutor Princess. I watched this only recently, for the sole purpose of seeing him, and I wasn't disappointed (the story is really awesome btw!) since he appeared already in the first episode!! He plays the young assistant of Prosecutor Yoon, the second male lead. His role is not very important, apart from the fact that he is the first one who recognizes the main girl, and he kinda disappears in the last episodes. But still, he is cute. My point of view can't be objective, since I knew him before (and what's the use of being objective anyway?) but I can tell you he is already cute here. Obviously, he is a a flower boy!! Even his voice is cute ~
WHERE IT ALL STARTED... FOR ME <3
Bromance era: The kid with the headphones
Secret Garden is one of my first dramas, and when I watched it, I had no idea what I would find in it. There is of course a lot of eye candy (Hyun Bin being the first, along with Yoon Sang Hyun), and then, there's my baby Jongsuk. He plays a young singer, who works with Oska/Yoon Sang Hyun, and gets close to him. At first we don't really know if he will be an important character or anything, but he actually is, in his own way. When I first saw him, I thought that he was cute. Then I saw him again, and I kept checking up his name to make sure I remembered it. Then I started waiting for his appearances. The more I saw him, the more I liked him...I remember thinking things like omg this kid is so handsome and cool and perfect and omg I'm in love with you, you're awesome why are you in a drama in Korea why why why??? (pretty much sums up my thoughts regarding him when I watched Secret Garden - I think I even dreamt of him). His bromance with Oska was funny and cute, and this is the story of how I first met Lee Jong Suk!
I MISSED YOU, YOU BASTARD... HEUNGSOON
Bromance again: The return of the kid with the headphones
School 2013 is the real beginning of Jongsuk's fame. Together with his buddy Kim Woo Bin, he made the fangirls' hearts melt. The whole cast of this drama is awesome actually. And I highly recommend it, but let's get back to our business. He got the Award of Best New Actor at the KBS Drama Awards, so I guess it wasn't just me thinking he was awesome!!
So, for those who didn't know, you can guess from the title, it's a school drama, no surprise here, but it's not a romance type, only bromance all over the place, and it makes it surprisingly brilliant, and yes, friendship can sometimes be a hundred times more powerful than love (or am I being too philosophical? Anyway, if you didn't get the message, it's awesome). Right, back to the kid (or should I say, my oppa). He plays here an ex-bully who has since transferred schools, and no one knows about his past. He still gets bad grades, though, and is elected the class' representative. But one day his ex-best friend (aka Kim Woo Bin/Park Heung Soo) transfers to his school and it becomes hell for Go Nam Soon, all his past coming back, and there seems to be a secret behind the end of their friendship...
And this is the beginning of the 'Heungsoon' bromance: I've never shipped a bromance so hard. There are also fight scenes which is where you realize the hotness of uri Jong Suk (if you weren't already heads over heels for him).
Oh right and on a side note, there's been a special which is actually pretty enjoyable, and Lee Jong Suk is adorable as ever <3
THE NOONA ROMANCE: I HEAR YOUR VOICE
You never get tired of the kid with the headphones
While his buddy Kim Woo Bin goes his own way, we have our baby Jong Suk playing in this masterpiece. Of course, I watched it for him. But it was terribly awesome!!! If you haven't heard of this drama, you're probably living on a deserted island - or maybe you just discovered kdramaland. Jong Suk plays here the role of Park Soo Ha, an orphan who grew up on his own with the strange ability of being able to hear people's thoughts (hence the title, and hence the headphones, because honestly, it must be damn tiring). Fun fact: he gets to act with Yoon Sang Hyun again, but they're love rivals this time. Our cute boy is in high school trying to find the girl who testified against his father's murderer, and protect her when the bad guy goes out of prison. The girl in question, Jang Hye Sung (Lee Bo Young) has become a public defender, and there they meet again...
Jong Suk is so damn adorable here. I swear when you watch this you only want to hug him with his puppy eyes ~ Yes his character is not only about eye candy and noona romance, he is also interesting about his choices of life. He is also strong, which makes him admirable. And his acting was good here. Totally loved it <333
MOVIES AND SPECIALS
Will you bear the unrequited love?
Nor very noticeable, yet I liked it. It's a special, so it's not very long. Jong Suk plays here the role of Yong Jung Hyuk, a young man whose girlfriend has to go to the hospital, and when he accompanies her, he meets her roommate. She is a married woman, and he falls in love with her. This is nothing much, but it's cute to watch, and once again, Lee Jong Suk is awfully adorable. And this story is not just about eye candy or teenage love, it's also about growing up, so if you like uri oppa go watch it immediately <33
Sageuk experience
Lee Jong Suk has here a supporting role, and plays Nae Jin Hyeong, a young man with a limp, whose dream is to become an official in the realm, but he can't as one of his ancestors was a traitor (or something like that). He is the face reader's son. His role is only a side one, but definitely necessary, and in my opinion, it was a proof of his acting. He was really heartbreaking ~
Or where he shows his abs during a whole movie
Lee Jong Suk here plays a rising swimmer, Jeong Wu Sang, who has to go to school. Here you will meet bromance again, in the person of Jo Won Il (Seo In Guk) and romance too. But of course, the main topic is swimming. Wu Sang is a cold person (not the cute and chubby guy we thought we knew) and only wants to be the best. But well, he has his weakness too, and especially when it comes to his old cursh (Yuri).
All in all, this is a cute comedy, it has its funny sides, and it's enjoyable!!
OTHER WORKS:
- High Kick! The Revenge of the Short Legged: to be honest, I didn't watch this because it is 123 episodes long, but if I find the time one day, I'll make sure I do, and get back to his debuts! (since it's his second drama role)
- Potato Star 2013QR3: Lee Jong Suk only has a cameo in episode 15 here, but it is pretty cute and funny, since it's a parody of I hear your voice, with an old man...
- As One: another movie where he has a supporting role.
- R2B: Return to Base: I'm not really a movie person, so I haven't seen those, but if I find time some day I will try them, even if he only has side roles!
UPCOMING:
- Blood Boiling Youth: This movie is actually already out, but since it's not subbed yet, we're still waiting out here in dramaland. After watching the trailer, I think it's gonna be cute and funny. It's set in 1982 and centers on students' life.
- Doctor Stranger: Upcoming drama, I think it will start airing in April and I CAN'T WAIT!!! The plot seems to be something like Lee Jong Suk being a talented North Korean doctor who flees to South Korea to work, but he feels too different... Who wants to see Lee Jong Suk wearing the coat??!
- The Face Reader: The movie with the same title was such a big success in South Korea, that they're talking about turning it into a drama, which would air in 2014.
And I said it before, he is a model before being an actor, and there are so many gorgeous photos of him that it was so hard to make choices here. But here is a video of him modeling!!
Right, and I think that will be all. I hope you enjoyed my article, and understood my love for this awesome boy!! Feel free to leave comments and share what you think about him <3 Thanks for reading!!
