Love O2O

Oh wow!! This Chinese Drama caught me by surprise. It definitely appeals to the nerdy gamer in me, as well as a lover of beautifully detailed wardrobe apparel as shown in game characters. This styling could possibly rival some of the top cosplay designers with striking designs and colours. It is an adaptation of the film One Smile is Very Alluring.

The fun note is, when we go from the animated sequence of the game to the in-depth live action view, the characters are played by their offline counter parts. So essentially they have become their characters and this adds a neat factor to the game relationship connections.

However they actually only see the two dimensional version of their characters moving about, so have no clue what the other people they play with look in real life other than their own personal friends who are also playing the game.

Albeit a little ultra cheesy in concept, our leads are totally hot but they are also high level gamers on a popular multiplayer online game. The concept lightly reflects on Sword Art Online – Anime with a completely different story – where our leads meet while playing the game and then fall in love.

Our female lead splits ways with her current male partner in the game, who she was partnered up with for awhile to complete missions and side quests to wrack up experience points. Both say goodbye, and she kindly passes on his offer to meet up in person. 

The partnering up was kind of corny where two gamers would bring their characters to an appointed place and an old dude would show up and marry them to each other. Separating was done in a similar fashion but just between the two game characters arriving on their own at a certain place in the game. Each new partnering (game marriage) was celebrated in parade style with the groom and bride dressed in red with the Groom on horseback and the Bride drawn by carriage. Though Wei Wei's outfit of choice is red to begin with. Other online players could come to celebrate or look over the proceedings, add their own gossip to the game chat, etc.

After the recent partnership closure, Reed Wei Wei (Who is actually Bei Wei Wei), played by Zheng Shuang, is surprised to discover her previous partner almost instantly couples up with another female player known as Enchantress who is known to be exceptionally beautiful but has a trio of annoying side kick girls.

When the highest ranking male character suddenly shows up before user Reed Wei Wei, he offers to couple up with her, to which she ponders and then agrees as it would help raise her game level. He is actually the most handsome and popular guy on campus whom every girl is infatuated with, game design wizard Xiao Nai played by Yang Yang.

Unknown to her, he has actually seen her IRL playing the game on a public computer and can see that she is a talented player, and not to mention a beautiful girl well known in her department on campus.

He’s pretty easy on the eyes too, but at this point his identity is not revealed to her. Though she has seen him on campus where she is a computer major, but does not realize he’s her game partner. He is also a talented game designer, extremely smart and is also a basketball heartthrob for numerous fan-girls that are crushing on him.

This sets the pacing for the sweet romance/drama that is to unfold. As the viewer you can easily assess that he is attracted to her. And, like everyone else around her that is smitten with him, she too can see he’s a handsome guy but she doesn’t know a lot about him yet. In the mean time this pairing is kicking butt in the game!

This is one mega hot gamer guy transition!! Great job makeup, hair and wardrobe departments!!

He really is taking his time getting to know her through the game and admiring her from a distance. Though he is beginning to close their space proximity, by showing up at a class his father teaches and opting to sit in the seat beside her, much to her shy dismay and curiosity.

There are several fun side characters, each adding their own special element to this story! But for now it's all about these two!!!  We’re anxiously awaiting their real life meeting.
The drama is well paced that you won’t get bored! It is definitely 'the something different' you’ve been waiting for.
