Another 5 Underappreciated K-Dramas segment? Duh.
Hello guys! Good to be back again with another 5 Underappreciated K-Dramas article! Since you loved my last one [Check Part 01 and Part 02], I decided to make another one as I keep bumping into gems while I'm looking for a drama to watch. Hopefully, you'll love this one too!
Therefore, let's get started with the article!
Be Melodramatic / Melo Suits Me
Be Melodramatic depicts the stories of three 30-year-old best friends with their own individual problems that they have to struggle within their personal and professional lives. The three women are Im Jin Joo - a rookie screenwriter who gets fired from her job for writing the script in her own style and has broken up with her ex-boyfriend of 7 years, Hwang Han Joo - the marketing team leader in an entertainment agency who is also a single mother and Lee Eun Jung - a documentary director with a tragic past.
This drama has been definitely a roller coaster of emotions. You'll laugh, cry and empathize with every single character. It's one of those rare dramas where the supporting characters are as much great as the main characters since, after all, the characterization mainly carry the drama rather than the plot. This drama is one of the most cleverly written dramas I've ever watched.
It shocks me how underrated this drama is. It's definitely a gem that you should be checking out.
Avenger's Social Club
A chaebol heir comes together with a poor fish store owner and the wife of a politician to form a club named 'Buam-Dong Revenge Club' or 'Avenger's Social Club' to take revenge on the people who try to take away their self-respect and cause their destruction.
Yes, the synopsis does sound uninteresting, and that is probably one of the main reasons why people passed on this. But seriously, passing on a drama only for the synopsis is one of the worst things to do.
This drama is one of a kind, I'd say. It's unique from other female-centered dramas and has very charming characters and a plot. It's simple, but very smartly written and undoubtedly enjoyable. It's pretty short in size, but maybe that's the thing that makes this drama entertaining till the end and definitely not draggy at any point.
Falling For Innocence
Kang Min Ho, a cold-hearted man with rude behaviour, suddenly gets a heart attack. However, he miraculously survives after his heart was exchanged with a young detective who has a kind personality and is also Min Ho's father's ex-secretary, Kim Soon Jung's fiance. Soon after the heart transplant, Min Ho, who resented Soon Jung due to an incident, found himself to be falling deeply in love with her.
Falling for Innocence or Falling for Soon Jung was a delight to watch. With the brilliant performances from the cast and a heartwarming plot, this drama is a solid and well-written romantic drama.
Though I have to admit, it did get a wee bit boring in the later episodes since it's also in the business genre and the drama got too revolved around the business plot, but overall, it was a memorable watch.
Fantastic
Lee So Hye is a drama screenwriter who is suddenly diagnosed with breast cancer, and she has a limited time to live. Therefore, So Hye decides to spend the rest of her days by doing everything she ever wanted to do, but she doesn't want to stop writing the drama script she was currently working on. So Hye meets the arrogant but untalented actor who was also her first love, Ryu Hae Song, and the two eventually fall in love.
I tend to avoid dramas which tackle with terminal illness most of the times, but I decided to check this out as I had nothing else to do. To my surprise, it turned out to be much better than I had expected.
There's not a lot to say about this drama, honestly. However, the main couple is adorable, and the secondary couple was also just as great. You will learn to empathize with each of the characters who are facing their own individual problems as you watch this drama. I was unable to finish this drama due to personal reasons, but overall, the episodes I watched were worth the time.
Matrimonial Chaos
Jo Seok Moo is married to Kang Hwi Ru for 3 years. But then Seok Moo asks Hwi Ru for a divorce as they realize that they don't have much in common. Another married couple, Jin Yoo Yeong and Lee Jang Hyun, appear in front of them and it turns out, Jin Yoo Yeong is apparently Jo Seok Moo's first love.
At first, when I found out about this drama and saw its summary, it sounded exactly like the kind of story Japanese dramas would have. But well, it turns out to be an adaptation of a Japanese drama. Korean dramas tend to be bad at remakes most of the times, but it's different with this drama (Or maybe because I haven't watched the original?)
But anyway, this drama was very realistic, and that's not how most romantic Korean dramas are. The drama realistically portrayed the two married couples whose marriage was practically falling apart. I'm surprised how underrated this drama is despite that it has a well-known cast.
