Renowned for helming the blockbusters Along With the Gods: The Two Worlds and Along With the Gods 2: The Last 49 Days, Director Kim Yong Hwa returns with a new production, The Moon.
Director Kim Yong Hwa shared anecdotes during an interview for the movie The Moon, held at a café in Sogeokdong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, on July 27th.
In The Moon, he reunited with EXO's D.O. (Doh Kyung Soo) from the Along with the Gods, and they collaborate once more to make a blockbuster.
During the interview, Director Kim Yong Hwa discussed the reasons behind casting D.O. as the protagonist, Hwang Seon Woo, a South Korean astronaut stranded alone on the moon. He said, "While some may hold different opinions, I have always believed that since my first movie, casting actors who have yet to establish a definitive image and fully showcase their potential, even if they have some recognition, can be more advantageous if the movie itself is compelling". He added, "I cannot confidently say that all my future films will be like this. However, I firmly believe that even if an actor hasn't attained significant stardom, the audience will, after watching the movie, resonate with the notion that 'it could not have been anyone but Doh Kyung Soo'".Additionally, Director Kim Yong Hwa lauded Doh Kyung Soo's remarkable talent when it came to wire action scenes, reminiscing about his first encounter with Doh Kyung Soo after he was cast in Along with the Gods. He admitted being unaware of the actor's immense capabilities, and even the martial arts team was left astounded. "Wire action demands not only core strength but exceptional athleticism. If you don't have a strong core and great agility, you cannot do it. But he [Do Kyung Soo] pulled it off flawlessly". The upcoming space movie tells the story of Hwang Seon Woo (Doh Kyung Soo), a lone astronaut stranded on The Moon due to an accident, and Jae Guk (Sol Kyung Gu), the former head of the space center, desperately attempting to rescue him.
The K-Movie The Moon is set to hit theaters on August 2nd in South Korea.
