Gackt to Play an 18-Year-Old in “Tonde Saitama”

Camui Gackt, a famous Japanese singer, actor, and former member of metal band Malice Mizer will apparently star as an 18-year-old high school student in the upcoming manga adaptation Tonde Saitama. Gackt will be 45 this summer.

The character he will portray is Rei Asami, a student who transfers to a prestigious Japanese high school from the US. The 1982 manga is described as "yaoi comedy" but I'm not sure why since the other main character is female. The story takes place in a fictional Japan where birthplace and residency are of the utmost importance and you can be discriminated against because of that.

Gackt is often considered one of the sexiest and most fashionable celebrities in Japan. He is famous for calling himself a 1000-year-old vampire. Also, until recently, his exact date of birth had been unknown even though people estimated he was born in the 70s. It seems that Gackt enjoyed the veil of mystery surrounding him.
