Hong Xa Bin's stills from Escape have been unveiled.
Escape follows Sergeant Lim Kyu Nam (Lee Je Hoon) of North Korea, planning to escape to the South, and State Security Department Major Ri Hyeon Sang (Koo Kyo Hwan) trying to stop him.
In the upcoming K-movie, Hong Xa Bin will be seen in the role of Dong Hyuk, a low-ranking soldier serving in a frontline unit near the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) with Kyu Nam (Lee Je Hoon). Kyu Nam cherishes Dong Hyuk like he is his own younger brother.
Dreaming of escaping to reunite with his mother and brother who defected from North Korea, Dong Hyuk discovers Kyu Nam's escape plan and begs to be taken along. When Kyu Nam refuses, Dong Hyuk decides to escape alone, which leads to changes in Kyu Nam's plan.
Director Lee Jong Pil commented, "I thought of Dong Hyuk as someone who could be a friend or family, someone I would feel affection for. He seems ordinary yet full of life, so I believed an exceptionally skilled actor had to play Dong Hyuk. Hong Xa Bin's performance was truly outstanding. Plus, he is an adorable, loyal, and very endearing person," explaining why he cast Hong Xa Bin for the role of Dong Hyuk.
Hong Xa Bin stated, "I prepared for Dong Hyuk by discussing extensively with the director. Personally, I was very touched by the characters' dreams and ideals, and as an actor, I approached the work supporting those aspects."
Escape will get its domestic release on July 3. The K-movie has also been pre-sold to 163 countries, including Taiwan, the Philippines, Australia, the UK, and France. In North America, Escape will be released in theaters on July 5.
