The upcoming movie Sleep, casting Lee Sun Kyun and Jung Yu Mi in lead roles, and directed by Yoo Jae Sun, has received an invitation to be part of the prestigious Midnight Madness Programme at the 48th Toronto International Film Festival.
Sleep tells a story of a newlywed couple, Hyun Soo (Lee Sun Kyun) and Soo Jin (Jung Yu Mi), whose world is turned upside down by Hyun Soo's strange behavior when he falls asleep.
The film has garnered immense attention, not only securing its place in the Midnight Madness Programme at the esteemed Toronto International Film Festival but also earning a coveted spot at the Critics' Week of the prestigious Cannes International Film Festival earlier this year. Furthermore, it has been invited to the Official Fantàstic (In-Competition) section, at the upcoming 56th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, set to take place in October.
Peter Kuplowsky, the lead programmer for the Toronto International Film Festival's Midnight Madness section, expressed his enthusiasm for the film, stating, "The premiere of Sleep at Cannes Critics' Week marked an auspicious start. Writer and director Yoo Jae Sun skillfully subverts the genre through suspense, wit, and powerful ambiguity, and I was delighted to invite him to Midnight Madness".
The Toronto International Film Festival, one of the most prestigious events of its kind, is holding its 48th edition this year. The festival is set to take place from September 7th - 17th.
Fans and cinephiles can look forward to the theatrical release of Sleep on September 6th.
