According to OSEN's report on the 26th, Kim Shi Eun has been cast as a female character in the Netflix original series drama Squid Game Season 2, written and directed by Hwang Dong Hyuk. The specific role she will portray is yet to be revealed.
High expectations arise as Kim Shi Eun will follow in the footsteps of model-actress Jung Ho Yeon (who played the character Kang Sae Byeok) who continues to gain popularity worldwide after her role in Squid Game (2021).
Kim Shi Eun gained attention after her appearance in the Korean film Next Sohee (directed by July Jung), which premiered as the closing film at the 75th Cannes Film Festival's Critics' Week in 2022.
Next Sohee is a film that depicts the intense story of So Hee (played by Kim Shi Eun), an 18-year-old high school student who encounters an incident while on a field trip, and Detective Yoo Jin (played by Bae Doo Na), who investigates the case, as they meet in the same space but different times. The film was released in theaters in February and met with domestic audiences.
Kim Shi Eun received the Best New Actress award in the film category at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards through this film. It raises curiosity about her role in Squid Game Season 2 and how she will showcase her new character.
On the 18th, Netflix announced the list of male actors confirmed to appear in the new season, including Yim Si Wan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Sung Hoon, and Yang Dong Geun.
In addition, Lee Jung Jae, who led Squid Game Season 1, will return as the character Seong Gi Hoon. Joining him in Season 2 is Lee Byung Hun as the Frontman, Wi Ha Joon as Hwang Jun Ho, who dives into a mysterious survival game to uncover his brother's secret, and Gong Yoo as the Ddakji man. Squid Game Season 2 is scheduled to begin filming in the second half of this year with the aim of a Netflix release in 2024.
