"Kingdom: Ashin of the North" starring Jun Ji Hyun is confirmed to premiere this July!
On June 4th it was finally confirmed that the upcoming special episode of "Kingdom: Season 2" will be out on July 23.
"Kingdom: Ashin of the North" will narrate the story of Ashin and how the huge tragedy started and engulfed the Joseon dynasty. With this special episode, the origin of the plague that struck in Joseon will finally be revealed.
In the released teaser video, it started with the discovery of a mysterious mark written on a rock by young Ashin, who entered a deep cave with a torch in bleak darkness. The video also showed Ashin with the purple flower which is the resurrection plant. She crushed the flower with the following caption "To bring back the dead, a price must be paid.”
"Kingdom: Ashin of the North" will be directed by the same director of the two seasons of "Kingdom," director Kim Sung Hoon. Famous writer Kim Eun Hee will work on the script of the special episode. This special episode will exclusively air on Netflix and it will be produced by BA Entertainment and Studio Dragon.
The cast of the upcoming special episode includes Jun Ji Hyun, Park Byung Eun, Kim Shi Ah, and Koo Kyo Hwan.
Jun Ji Hyun made a special appearance on the 6th episode of "Kingdom: Season 2." Joo Ji Hoon's character Lee Chang encountered Ashin as their group head north in search of the secret behind the resurrection plant.
The first season of "Kingdom" premiered on Netflix in 2019 and it garnered a lot of love from viewers locally and abroad. It was then followed by the second season in 2020. According to writer Kim Eun Hee, there's a potential for a third season of the series but nothing has been confirmed yet.
"Kingdom" consists of main casts Joo Ji Hoon, Ryu Seung Ryong, Bae Doo Na, Kim Sung Gyu, Kim Sang Ho, Jun Suk Ho, and more.
