The movie The Night Owl won three awards at the 43rd Korean Association of Film Critics Awards.
The Night Owl was awarded Best Actor, Best New Director, and Best Cinematography Awards.
Director Ahn Tae Jin, who received the Best New Director award, expressed his gratitude, saying, "Director Lee Joon ik always said that a director can succeed by listening to others. I think I was able to come this far thanks to the efforts of my staff and actors in actively listening. I sincerely thank all my colleagues who worked on The Night Owl until the end".
Kim Tae Kyung, who won the Best Cinematography award, said, "Our The Night Owl cinematography is truly exceptional, and I'm grateful that film critics recognized it. Expressing the unique visual setting of blindness was crucial for the cinematography. I think [winning] this award was possible thanks to the hard work of all the staff members who dedicated themselves from pre-production to production and post-production. I want to express my gratitude to the Korean Association of Film Critics for creating such a meaningful platform".
The Night Owl was released in November 2022, surpassing 3.32 million viewers. It was also one of the highest-grossing movies last year. In addition to being nominated in eight categories at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards last year, it won three awards in the three categories: Best Film, Best Male Actor, and Best New Director. It was also officially invited to the competition section Orbita at the 56th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival and to the competition section at the 25th Udine Far East Film Festival.
