After the staggering success of Hellbound in 2021, the series is returning with a second season. On August 4th, the global streaming service Netflix released a short video giving glimpses of the production of Hellbound Season 2.
The cast lineup includes Kim Hyun Joo, Yang Ik Jun, Kim Sung Cheol, Hong Eui Joon, Kim Shin Rok, Lee Re, Im Sung Jae, and Lee Dong Hee, among others.
Kim Hyun Joo will reprise her role as attorney Min Hye Jin, who goes up against the New Truth Society; Kim Sung Cheol will replace Yoo Ah In as Jung Jin Soo, a cult leader of New Truth Society; Kim Shin Rok will reprise her role as Park Jung Ja, a single mother who was the subject of the public demonstration in episode 1 of the first Season; Hong Eui Joon comes as the leader of Sodo, replacing Yang Dong Geun; and Yang Ik Jun returns as detective Jin Kyung Hoon.
The K-drama is adapted from a webcomic written by Yeon Sang Ho and illustrated by Choi Kyu Seok.
Hellbound takes place in an apocalyptic world where mysterious otherworldly beings emerge to issue decrees and condemn people to hell. Amidst the frightening events, the religious group New Truth Society exploits people's fear to gain power and influence. But not everyone is its blind follower. A few who are suspicious decide to unravel the behind-the-curtain activities of the organization, only to find shocking truths.
Taking the director's chair is the original webtoon's writer Yeon Sang Ho, famous for helming the cult-favorite Train to Busan. The screenplay is penned by Choi Gyu Seok.
