Veteran actor Song Min Hyung passes away at the age of 70.
Song Min Hyung took his last breath on the morning of April 3. The bereaved family revealed to Yonhap News during a phone call, "The deceased recently underwent surgery for gallbladder cancer and passed away while undergoing treatment."
Song Min Hyung graduated from Dongguk University's Department of Theater and Film and made his debut as a child actor in 1966 with the role of a goblin in KBS's Children's Theater - Humpbacked Old Man.
In the mid-1980s, he briefly left for the United States and returned to the screen in 1995 with SBS's LA Arirang. The actor was much loved by the public for his role in tvN's long-running and popular drama Ugly Miss Young Ae, which aired for 17 seasons from 2007 to 2019.
The actor also starred in hit dramas such as Hwarang, SKY Castle, and Hot Stove League, among others.Song Min Hyung, on MBN's Dongchimi, revealed his struggle with liver cancer, saying, "I suffered from liver cancer four times. When I was filming the drama Jumong, I was diagnosed with liver cancer, and the tumor was over 5cm in size, so I was told to have surgery quickly. But I endured it (due to the drama's filming) and only had chemotherapy."
He continued, "[During cancer treatment,] I ate mudfish stew holding my nose. Even though it felt like I would vomit after swallowing the porridge, I took deep breaths and kept eating. As a result, I recovered. Thanks to my stamina, I endured the exhaustion from chemotherapy."
Song Min Hyung's funeral was set up at the funeral hall of the Seoul Red Cross Hospital, Saemunan-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul. The funeral procession will be held on April 5.
