Shao I Chen

Year 2025

On September 19, 2025, Shao I Chen sits across from his boyfriend Chiang Chin Teng and another girl at a café. Chin Teng introduces her as Yi Jun, his fiancée. After realizing his relationship with Chin Teng has come to an end, I Chen runs out of the café heartbroken. Chin Teng appears, and I Chen questions him. He breaks down, begging Chin Teng to not let him go, since Chin Teng had promised him that before. Shao I Chen gets up and runs once again. Not paying attention, he runs into the street and is hit by a car. His body is shown on the ground with blood pooling around it.

Rebirth Symbolism

Shao I Chen is shown curled in the fetal position, seemingly nude, with a blanket covering himself. He is in water and then emerges. This scene is used as a representation of Shao I Chen being "born." This is his rebirth and his second chance to start a new life.

Year 2016

Second Chance

Shao I Chen is in his house. Not sure why Chiang Chin Teng betrayed him, and why he was sent back in time nine years and given another chance, he vows to change his fate and not be hurt by Chiang Chin Teng again. He leaves for university.

His new, "exciting" life starts by running from men who are chasing him, together with his friend, Li Mu Pai, and a stranger, Lei Chung Chun. I Chen is shown running by Chiang Chin Teng.

As a part of his plan to forgot Chiang Chin Teng, I Chen decides to burn the notes he had written, and photos he collected, of Chiang Chin Teng since high school. He believes this will change his destiny. Mu Pai thinks he is acting strange since he used to highly value his journal of Chiang Chin Teng. Unexpectedly, the wind picks up and blows some of the notes away before they are burned.

Meeting

While leaving a class, Shao I Chen is found by Chiang Chin Teng. He wants to know how long Shao I Chen been watching him. However, before anything can be said, Chung Chun, helps get him out of the situation. Even so, I Chen continues to hide from Chin Teng. Mu Pai theorizes that Chiang Chin Teng must have found the notes they lost to the wind. I Chen doesn't think so, stating there was no indication that the notes were written by him.

Accident

Shao I Chen joins the Universal Research Club. He believes it is a good way to avoid Chiang Chin Teng, but Chin Teng also joins the club. On a trip for the club, I Chen is taken to a tent by Chiang Chin Teng. He tells him to leave him alone and that he won't be fooled by his words again. Eventually, Chin Teng asks to see the rest of the notes, and I Chen is startled to find out he knows about them. After saying he burned them, Shao I Chen is pushed down and forcefully kissed and touched by Chiang Chin Teng. I Chen does get him pushed off and runs away. Chiang Chin Teng follows after, and they both fall down a hill. Once stopped, Shao I Chen becomes frantic when noticing that Chin Teng lays unconscious and bleeding.

He cries as he waits in the hospital and takes care of Chiang Chin Teng during his unconsciousness. Shao I Chen wonders why Chin Teng saved him. When Chin Teng finally wakes up, he does not recognize I Chen. Even so, I Chen lets Chin Teng stay at his house while he recovers. I Chen is kind to Chin Teng and does not try to avoid him like before.

Shao I Chen and Chiang Chin Teng do a lot of things together during Chin Teng's recovery, which does not help I Chen, who seems to be falling in love all over again. He still tries hard to keep his feeling in check even when Chin Teng makes the comment of not wanting to regain his memories if I Chen was not a part of them. I Chen gets up to leave, but Chin Teng does not want him to. Chin Teng states that I Chen does like him, and then kisses him after I Chen denies it. I Chen runs away afterward.

Confusing Feelings

Not sure what to do about his feelings, he consults with Mu Pai. He asks him what he would do if he loved someone he knows he shouldn't and will cause him misfortune. Mu Pai answers by saying he can't control his heart, even when his mind tells him otherwise, and that he should just give in to his feelings because trying to go against how he feels won't change the feelings. As long as he is happy when they are together is what matters.

Though not entirely satisfied with Mu Pai's advice, I Chen does think he is making some undeniable points. Realizing that there have been alterations in time already, maybe his future will be different and won't lead to death. He thinks maybe he shouldn't worry about the future right now after all.

Revelation

On his way to see Chiang Chin Teng, he overhears his conversation with Yi Jun and finally finds out that Chin Teng has been faking his amnesia the whole time. Tsai I Chun tells I Chen to watch out for people like Chin Teng who would do all sorts of things to get what they want. Betrayed, Shao I Chen runs away, not willing to listen to Chiang Chin Teng. He feels stupid for believing in Chin Teng again and thinking that the future would be different.

Chin Teng catches up with I Chen, but I Chen punches him. He starts to run off again, but just like in 2025, he runs into the street, a car about to hit him. The car slows to a stop, but Chin Teng pulls him into his chest and holds him. After a while, he pushes away and runs off again. Back at home, he is grabbed by Chin Teng and forcefully kissed numerous times. He thinks Chin Teng is crazy, but Chin Teng blames this attraction on I Chen's journal pages.

Chin Teng follows him to the bedroom and pushes him down on the bed. I Chen is held down, and told that he should look only a Chin Teng, and to give him his heart and body. Both emotional, I Chen questions Chin Teng's sanity. Chiang Chin Teng doesn't deny it, and even tells I Chen that he doesn't want to lose the happiness he felt when they were together. Crying, I Chen goes on to say that he doesn't deserve Chin Teng, and Chin Teng kisses him again. I Chen finally accepts that that Chin Teng has liked him since he had first found the journal pages. He questions Chin Teng, wondering if he was afraid on rejection, and that is why he faked amnesia, just to make I Chen feel guilty and stay close to him. I Chen speculates that Chin Teng wanted him to confess first, so Chin Teng could avoid a rejection. Chiang Chin Teng kisses I Chen again. He eventually asks Chin Teng what he would do if he admitted he didn't like him. Chin Teng answers by saying he would kill him. If he couldn't have him, then nobody else could either. Not being able to deny his feelings anymore, he tells Chiang Chin Teng that he likes him. Chin Teng confesses in return. They kiss again.

New Beginning

Shao I Chen tries to wake Chin Teng up, who appears to be having a nightmare. When he asks Chin Teng about it, Chin Teng says he dreamt of I Chen dying from a car accident. Surprised, I Chen wonders why Chin Teng dreamed of what happens to him in 2025. Chin Teng goes on to tell him that a fake engagement led to I Chen's death. From this, I Chen learns that the engagement wasn't real. He then tells I Chen that he will protect him himself and not by using a girl.

Even though he knows he ends up dying once for Chin Teng, he still loves him regardless. Happy, I Chen rolls above Chin Teng. He tells Chin Teng that he will never belong to anybody, but kisses Chin Teng's collar and says that Chin Teng is his. Chin Teng sits up and questions who is really whose. They kiss and happily roll around on the bed.

Trivia

• Shao I Chen's calendar indicates that he meets Chiang Chin Teng on campus on November 19th.

• When burning the notes, it is mentioned that Shao I Chen had fainted, and stopped breathing, before being revived the month prior to his first day at university.

• Chiang Chin Teng was Shao I Chen's senior when he was a freshman in high school.

• Chiang Chin Teng was able to tell I Chen wrote the notes because he mentioned his own name in one of the notes Chin Teng had found.
