As a dedicated physical media collector, I find it frustrating that foreign-friendly Asian releases, especially dramas, are scarce overseas. I wish more labels would distribute these titles with multiple language subtitle options, reducing reliance on streaming and bootlegs. Although some labels like Arrow Video, Well Go USA, The Criterion Collection, Discotek Media, Funimation, Vinegar Syndrome, 88 Films, Shout! Factory, Tokyo Shock, and Third Window Films release Asian content, their catalogue is ultimately small.
Why don't live-action Asian shows receive the same attention as anime, and how do you feel about the limited physical media options for collectors?
Also, having never purchased a bootleg DVD/Blu-ray of an Asian drama/movie, I seek others' experiences with the picture, sound, and subtitle quality.
Some Titles I’d Like to Recieve a Blu-Ray Release:
1 Litre of Tears [Drama] (2005) + Special
Angel Dust [Movie] (1994)
Densha Otoko: Train Man [Drama] (2005) + Specials
The Fable [Movie] (2019) + Sequel
Hitman: Agent Jun [Movie] (2020)
Kingdom [Drama] (2019) + Sequel & Spinoffs
Squid Game [Drama] (2021)
