I usually rate the whole drama after I watch it and I rate from the top down. I mean, everything's a ten and then I start deducting points based on two main categories: the story and the acting.

If you tell me a good story--well laid out and something that I could lose myself into, it's a 10. Usually I like resolved endings than open-ended ones--those can be frustrating especially when the writers makes you want it so bad but then they leave you in the air.

And second, there must be a good build up. A good story has development--I think Japanese dramas best portray this point. When they introduce a character, they usually do it casually and flash the new face on focus for a bit, make the new character and the protagonist talk or meet, briefly at first and then they focus at him or her at the next episode.

On acting -- Actors really play a crucial role in a drama because they give life to it--but they cannot do if their faces are half-dead or they just bear the same kind of expression for ALL feelings. :\

Also, there has to be character development. The supporting cast is there for a reason. And if a drama incorporates its characters for the enhancement of its story, no matter how small or big their roles maybe, it's a 10 for me.

I've recently tried averaging a drama's overall rating from the episode ratings with the same guides above. ^_^ They're helpful but when you rate the whole drama, and weigh whether the things that I dislike about it are merit enough to deduct a point or not. I try asking: Was the acting was really bothersome that it affected the mood? And the female lead needs to leave him because...? What's the story's point? Do I agree with that? And so on... :D

yup i agree, I also start off with a 10 and start deducting points as the drama goes on. I do love how we can rate each episode now, because it just makes it easier to rate the drama overall.
I do not rate or review until I'm done. There have been MORE THAN A FEW dramas where I have watched the first part, loved it!...and then it tanked at the end. Or..some that had a slow start and I ended up loving them. For me, the reasoning of rating a movie/drama before it's complete is a mystery.. and Reviewing before complete... NEVER.
When I finish the first episode, I rated it and I leave it that way. When I finish it, I give it my last rating overall :)
I rate a drama from the very start of the episode and the end of it.. by how the characters showing their very best by doing their part in the story, and also with the background music, but this is according with my standards..others has also their standards when rating a drama's..

I didn't answer "How"...

How, I admit isn't as much of an organized system as maybe it should be. I've actually stumbled here and there because I don't have a system down pat. Usually I let the words by the ratings guide me. Was it excellent? Great? Good? Fair? Poor? How do I really feel about the writing, acting? Music? I also throw in things that aren't mentioned like directing, editing, lighting, set and costume design. I sort of go by things I notice in movies for dramas as well. Like the Academy Awards have categories for those things and I really do feel they are important. Especially directing and editing. For example: I think the dialog in Faith is written extremely well but the directing is really uneven. While I am enjoying the interactions between the characters some of the execution of plot and fight scenes take me out of the mood. That is going to effect my rating at the end. Also, if the drama or movie is one that warrants a good soundtrack, I take the music into consideration. If it wasn't really necessary or lack of 'cool, groovy tunes' did not effect my enjoyment of the story, then I won't let the music or lack, take away from my overall score.

I hope my explanation wasn't too muddled.
I rate a drama after I finish it. I might have an idea of how I will rate it in the beginning, but to me the ending decides everything. Something that starts off as an 8 to me might become a 10 or it might become a 6 (or lower!). But that's what's so nice about the episode ratings now :p Rate it by episode!

EXACTLY... That is why there are episode ratings! :) I cannot rate the whole thing (will not do it) after one or even a few episodes. Esp. after Big and Wild Romance. LOL Things change!

lol I was thinking about that exactly XD
There are dramas that start out being a 10 and then become a 3 and there are some others that start out pretty low and end up being 9-10 :)
I remember I hated K2H episode 2, I rated it like a 5 on the episode guide and in the end I gave the whole drama a 10 :)

Hahaha same! And they really do! I'm still glad I dropped Big after episode 4. Such a shame considering the cast =__=

Lol yeah, big, fashion king, all disappointing at the end. I love rating each episode, makes it a lot easier to rate the drama overall at the end.
it really depends. Usually I try to wait until I'm finished to really rate a drama. But, sometimes I rate somewhere in the middle and in those cases it's usually because the drama really interested me/didn't interest me. So usually depends on how well I'm enjoying them ^^ what influences my ratings: is definitely the acting (as well as the chemistry if it's more of a romantic drama), how well I'm drawn into the story, also endings play big parts as well, oh and can't forget my feels (course that kinda goes into the "drawn into" category)

OMGosh I couldn't agree more on that. I was loving Protect the Boss until it got to a certain point and then my ratings dropped. I find that the adding and removing of episodes also influences my ratings, since some dramas should be left alone whereas others could continue.
