Stuffed Cat:
i think we're so very close to the time such a move would cause a storm not just from the LGBT community and 'the trendy lefties', but with a large percentage of the average citizens. (Or maybe that's just wishful thinking, because we're so much closer than when I first came out many years ago.) If it does cause that reaction, it will indeed prove culture-changing.
If they have done / are doing that, I'm not sure whether to scream at them or (if it comes back to bite them) to thank them for testing the water ... and getting burned!
This is an interesting take... but I think you'd be surprised as to how minority the vocal are.
As a straight person, I have no interest in LGBT content, so if it were hidden by default, I certainly wouldn't seek it out. Also, if there were an option to filter LGBT content out of recommended content, I'd probably opt for it.
The main problem we're facing is - as in my opening post - what counts as LGBT content? I mean: Game of Thrones features gay and bi characters (as well as the incest - YUCK!), but is not an LGBT programme... so would it be hidden?
I'll also point out how I know people who have met producers ,whom have secretly whispered that Netflix has an LGBT clause in the contract when commissioning! That means that there must be an LGBT-promoting aspect to the commissioned programme! The amount of gay/lesbian/bi/trans bit characters in Netflix stuff is clear and this is likely the reason.
I remember watching, Penny Dreadful, and then suddenly, a gay kiss and sex scene came completely out of nowhere! The show quickly became gay erotica and I stopped watching, but an LGBT tag should - in my opinion - be added, even if the content is not banned and/or hidden. After all, we get swearing, violence, sex and even horror tags/warnings, but nothing to separate LGBT.
Like I wrote above: this will be worth following.
