Hi, so until now I was always a K-Pop fan and finally I decided that I wanted to learn about J-Pop. so I searched for J-Pop and found ... well nothing really good and I had no clue what I was watching so please please please, can someone tell me about J-Pop... Like in Korea, are there groups which are very well known like SNSD or Super Junior (something similar in Japan?) or groups like TVXQ which have an amazing amount of fans (something similar?) or a little bit crazy groups like Big Bang (nothing against them, I love their music) or legendary groups similar to Shinhwa? So please tell me about those J-Pop groups someone should definitely know about...male and female... Groups with a really bad boy image, maybe...(don't know a Korean/ Japanese example) Groups with a cute image (like B1A4 as example)... Promising rookies^^ Or others you think I should know about^^ Thanks^^ Note: Please don't name AKB48 or something like...is it The Gazette or similar?...I don't know if they are J-Pop but I don't like them...
The gazette or something like that is put in the J-rock group but is usually Visual Kei. For J-pop the more known is KAT-TUN, Yamapi, NEWS, Arashi, Gackt ( the most known J-pop singer), SCANDAL, Hey! Say! JUMP and others from Johnny Entertainment are the best known. Amuse agency also has a group that has Miura Haruma and Satoh Takero
I second all suggestions from azevedo ^^ Johnny's & associates artists are totally Jpop If you want something that has a more rock sound, you could listen to L'Arc-en-Ciel, Flow, Man with a mission, and Asian Kung-fu Generation ^^ other bands I like very much are: Aqua Timez, Home Made Kazoku, ORANGE RANGE,Ikimono Gakari, and Ellegarden check them out, they're great ;) other jpop artists I like very much: Anna Tsuchiya, OLIVIA, Yui, Miwa, Sakamoto Maya, Hayashibara Megumi
If you used to listen something like Kpop, U should try EXILE, they have a typical american urban music which is similiar to Kpop

or you can try listen to Utada Hikaru, her music is acceptable for foreigner fans, this is one of Hana yori dango soundtrack

for idol girlgroup, you can try Perfume, they're similiar with Kpop, and I have some friend who likes Kpop and they like Perfume

For Idol boygroup, most of the popular act is come from johnny' entertainment, I'm not really a fan of them, but they have some very catchy song, like SMAP and Arashi are my fav, especially, but it's hard to find they're vid in youtube,

I'll still recommend Japanese rock, because Japanese music has always been associated with rock, if you're new to Japanese I dont think u can accept the Gazette, but you should try L'arc en ciel, most of international Japanese music fans like them, give a try

I know more about Japanese music, but I only reccomend some artist that prob well known and acceptable among international fans
My first and favorite j-pop group is KAT-TUN. As far as popularity, I think Arashi is similar to Super Junior. Girl Groups - Morning Musume, E-Girls, C-ute, AKB48 (or other AKB groups), Dancing Dolls (very promising rookie group), SCANDAL, Perfume Boy groups - KAT-TUN, Arashi, EXILE, D☆Date, AAA/Triple A (they have two girls in their group), Kis-My-Ft2, ONE OK ROCK, NEWS, girugamash That's all I can think of right now, but yeah like the others said above, for boy groups Johnny's Ent is very popular.
I really like Yui, Daichi Miura, Shota Shimizu and Yuya Matsushita
What Deena said is right. Japan is more associated with rock, and that's why most rock bands from Korea start in Japan. And J-pop has its own sound, it's really like a different type, not like K-pop that is more like the western music, so it's possible that you don't like them
Try Laruku (Larc en ciel) they are close to an actual pop group. Their vocalist HYDE also does a lot of solo stuff and other projects. (<== fan!) While gackt is brilliant (I am a huge fan) he may not be what you are looking for. There is also Ayumi Hamasaki. She does ballads and love songs and some pop. Though I am not an expert on j-pop. The rock genre is pretty popular world wide and has many well known artists. Most of them were already named here. Miyavi used to do a little of everything (not awfully sure what he is up to at the moment, though) Though you will probably find the j-genre very different from everything korean. There is less dancing for starters XD

Great R&B singers!
Thanks a lot for all the recommendation^^ I didn't have the time to check everything out, but as of now I can say: WOW!!!! I watched KAT-TUN, somehow different than my usual music style but I liked it^^ With Arashi, I already knew I like them (sorry I missed this in my first comment) So Perfume is quite intersting, I think I'm gonna listen to more of their songs :) I noticed I already watched a video of SCANDAL, and I still like them^^ Further I only checked Kis-my-ft2 and Hey!Say!JUMP and somehow I get the feeling that they are most likely the most similar boy groups to what I wished for at the beginning. But with Arashi, Perfume, KAT-TUN and SCANDAL, I'm as happy as possible because I found out about great J-Pop music, thanks again^^ Gonna check out the others, just didn't have the time until now^^

Besides all the great recommendations (I love almost all of them - I tend to stay away from j girl groups...maybe I should try listening to some again lol), you should also try Koda Kumi, J-Soul Brothers, SuG, One Ok Rock, Uverworld... It's very hard to find the PVs on YT or the albums on google, but luckily there is a site called jpopsuki where you can find A LOT of PVs, MVs, albums etc... you just need to obtain an invite from a member and then respect their rules. ^__^ (I have 2-4 invites if anyone wants...you can also check the jpopsuki tumblr tag ...there are always people there who have a lot of invitations...so yeah..enjoy lol) Jpop is just as amazing as Kpop... I wish people would spread Cpop as much as kpop though ^__^ what can I say? I love music.
