I have a question When I m seeing J pop videos in Youtube, they have so many views and Japan is a country with 124 mio people. Why does have a successful group just 500.000 views? Is their in Japan like an own version of YouTube or are music show ( MTV old fashion- style) more important?? Please can somebody explain the music culture in Japan. I would be sooo thankful. Take care of you
Well they have Nico Nico Douga which is something like Youtube. Kpop is deliberately being promoted and exported overseas whilst for jpop, one needs to really forage.
I would recommend Vocaloids because they're very versatile and I found everything comfortably on youtube in pretty good quality.

If you don't mind synthetic sound. But usually I simply love the lyrics for vocaloid songs.
Everyone has already recommended all the j-pop boy groups I could think of - Johnny's Entertainment But for girl groups, I think you should try 'Fairies' they're quite young but they're a really cool dance and vocal group where many of their songs are quite similar to the western type music and k-pop. Another girl group is 'Happiness'- they're quite an interesting group only consisting of 2 vocalists while the rest are dancers but their music is really catchy and fun
Almost everything has already been mentioned, but since Perfume is my absolute favorite girl group. When they smile, it's really genuine, and I always find myself singing along to their songs. :) As for another j-pop singer that you might like, I recommend Kana Nishino. <-- I love her voice!!

Also, I second Moniisek w/ the Vocaloid. Getting into Vocaloid is a world of it's own. You know how k-pop has their own rules and such, and it's its own community? Yeah, Vocaloid is like that too. It seems silly because the singers themselves are computers, and you would think that's why it has such a fanbase right? Nope. It's the producers and the fans. Any other type of music you ask who wrote the song/choreographed the dance? Uhh.... In Vocaloid the people making the songs are well-known to the fans. (Some of my faves are Akuno-P, 40mP, Easy Betti, and NanouP). The best part is? They are everyday people, and they put a LOT of work into their lyrics. Like, seriously. Akuno-P literally tells stories. But NanouP's songs are simply the best. So many feelings in them~

by 40mP

by EasyPop, and one of the most popular dance cover songs!!

by NanouP. His songs are reallllllly emotional and touching.

I agree, you should definitely give them a listen! I tend to like j-r&B/j-urban artist and j-rock artist more than j-pop. I love Johnny's in drama's and variety shows, I don't really care for there music. I think j-pop sounds is pretty different from the k-pop sound.

But I like the artist mentioned above, Crystal Kay, M-flo, Verbal (Rapper in M-flo), Shiina Ringo, Tokyo Jihen, Namie Amuro, AI, Utada, The Bawdies, Beni, jasmine, chemistry, Kreva, Nico Touches the Walls, Special Others, hiromi. There is many more that I like, but that is all I can think of right now lol.

I was trying to find a good PV of Tokyo Jihen, but then I came across this performance special. They sound just like the recording live! I think tokyo jihen broke up last year... if i'm not mistaken :(, but Shiina Ringo the lead singer in the group still does solo activity. I always wanted to see them live :(, but they announced their last tour last year. On the video's actual youtube page, the uploader has the names of all on the songs performed on the special with the time it was played in the video.

I'll def. be back to post more video lol. I love sharing music.
I absolutely love M-flo and verbal. Verbal is pretty connected to hip-hop in the states, so you might have heard of him. If you are familiar with the POW chains, then that is from his line of accessories. Verbal is also part of the group teriyaki boyz, there music was in Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift so you may recognize them. You may also recognize the girl in the MV from the Wolverine movie.

SPECIAL OTHERS are so dope (imo at least). I want to say they remind me of Dave Matthew's Band, but not really.

Oh, but a lot of their music is just instrumental with no words...
I'm quite new to Jpop myself, so this thread is pretty helpful to me too :D

This is Dream, which is a sub-group of E-Girls [I think ._.?] I normally don't listen to girl groups in general, but idk! Somehow I managed to like this song lol

This is GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE or just GENERATIONS. Pretty awesome!

(Most recent video) Love You More
Brave It Out
I highly suggest AAA, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, Akb48, Berryz Koubou, Buono!, Orange Caramel and Morning Musume :D
AI!
she Collabs with some many people! I think she lived in the states for a part of her childhood, but she lived in the states for a while so that is why she has a lot of songs in english. She more on the j-R&B side. Gotta Get Mine is from her latest album Moriagaro.

This is one of my favorite songs by her.
