The National Media Labor Union, which represents workers at public broadcasters MBC and KBS have voted overwhelmingly to go on strike, starting September 4. Unless the dispute is resolved quickly, it will certainly impact those networks' schedules in the coming weeks.
The gist of the dispute is a matter of journalistic freedom and integrity. Apparently, the top brass at the networks have been deliberately quashing news stories for political reasons. The union is calling for the ouster of the presidents at KBS & MBC, along with structural reforms to prevent such meddling in the future.
