Heya peeps,

Does anyone have some nice recommendations for korean hiostorical drama with strong romance?

These are already on my list...I have seen Empress Ki, and Scarlet Heart Ryeo (both very nice) I heard Jang Ok Jung, and Dong Yi are good?

Hi! I think you would like Jang Ok Jung since it does have a strong romance element to it!

I would also recommend The Princess' Man, Queen for Seven Days, Rebel Thief Who Stole the People, and The Bridal Mask (set during Japanese occupation rather than Goryeo/Joseon era).

I have Dong Yi in my PTW list as well!

From what I've watched and from your Watch List, I would definitely recommend:

1. The Princess' Man (powerful romance, political and historical facts)

2. Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People (very good political and historical plot...romance as a side plot, but I highly recommend it)

3. Jewel in the Palace - apart from political and historical facts about the first korean woman to be the supreme royal physician, if you like oriental medicine and food (and its medical purposes), you will love this drama. Don't let the year of 2003 get you! It has so much quality. The side characters are lovable and they all have a major role in the story! The political plot is outsanding! Yup, almost no romance, but the lovey dovey moments are sweet and the plot is so complex that you won't notice.

Hope you enjoy ^^

The King in Love - I loved this drama so much! It has such an emotional and complex storyline and I loved the relationship between the 3 main leads! And it definitely feels different from any other historical dramas I've watched and I think what I enjoyed the most is how they portrayed the many forms of love and relationships that are built between people: the relationship between friends, lovers, mother and son, etc. This is not your usual romance story, so I think that's why some people were not really into it, but I definitely think it's worth watching!

Live Up to Your Name - This is a mix between modern-day and historical and I have to say, I really loved the dynamics of it! It's funny, emotional, tragic and cute, at the same time!

Love in the Moonlight - If you liked Scarlet Heart Ryeo, then you'll definitely like this one too! I watched them both when they were still airing and they were both so good!

The Painter of the Wind - I really enjoyed the cross-dressing theme and it's a very unique watch!

I agree with these mentions (and some are already on your list):

  • The Princess' Man (my first historical and I've been hooked since) - strong romance
  • Empress Ki - great historical with romance
  • Jang Ok Jung has romance, too.
  • Dong Yi - the story kinda feels long but the romance and the character of Dong Yi is good
  • Empress Ki - great with romance
  • Rebel - decent romance and good bromance
  • Currently airing Grand Prince has romance, too.
