Where is the part in America in which mangas are prohibited? When you make a statement like that you must give especifics. Also, Im an avid fan of mangas, I buy them all the time from 6-10 dollars, thats not expenssive considering it is a form of art, you are not just buying a story, you are buying art. However, whatever happend to Ebay? You can buy mangas there for less than 4 dollars.
There are tons of books translated to English from other countries haha... I dont know what you read, and where you go to buy your books, but yeah. Do research before bashing out America, go to Amazone and look for them, you will find them. I dont know about this particular story, but there many others that are translated so your statement has loopholes somewhere.

I must say, while it is true Americans (not all of them but some) live in their own world, it is true of any other person in any other part of the world. Problem is, America is center of lots of discussions and so it is only said that Americans do this, or act this way, and so on... lets put another country under the magnifying glass and see what happens.

Hey Nin-ja :) I agree, I have found lots of books from Japan and Korea that are available in English. And in actuality there are plenty of manga available here. Tons. They might be considered expensive, but if you know how to shop around you ca find great deals on them. Especially Amazon. And anime/manga has by no means a small audience. The audience is huge and growing each day. I started going to this small convention that had maybe at the most 500 attendees and was hosted by a hotel in 2001. Now the convention has grown by leaps and bound and is help at the Raleigh Convention Center. So the number of attendees has probably grown to 5,000? (IDK it's probably a lot more than that) This is just one small example, but all over the country the anime/manga fandom is growing. And I have seen no sign of it stopping.
lol BTW I came in here to get some advice, how is this drama so far? Worth keeping on my list?
I hadn't read that post about the manga, but I've seen walls in bookstores filled with them even in smaller towns (in the US).

not to sound snarky, but i did not say that the purchase of manga was PROHIBITIED, i said the COST of purchasing manga is for many fans PROHIBATIVE, which simply means the high cost stops many fans from being able to purchase. for most people it simply isnt an option to spend $10 (usually more if you want it new) for a book they will read in 20 minutes. there are of course the avid fans and collectors who dont care about that kind of thing, but your average person isnt going to be willing to invest that kind of money. even when i've gone online and gotten good deals once you factor in shipping i've personally never paid less than $15 dollars for a single book in new condition.

america has a VERY homogonized pop-culture sceene. there is a small pool of other nationalities (like latino and some european) that have been folded in but there is very little beyond that. in the main stream asian culture is rarely consumed beyond anmie and video games. finding things like a korean novel translated into english certainly isnt an impossible task, but a very difficult one b/c most americans have no interest in historical korean fiction. why? well it has to be at least partially due to the fact that americans (general) place an over exaggerated value on all things american.

i cant speak to what goes on in other countries and how thier citizens feel, b/c i am an american and have neer been to another country.
I have moved mine to the rant thread as well... sorry for the trouble.
As interesting as all your view points are, could you please take it elsewhere? I wouldn't care if it was actually relevant to the drama, but it isn't.
