While watching the KBS Drama Awards and re-watching some old dramas, I came across the category of Best New Actor/Actress (신인연기상). The 2021 winners were Na In Woo and Lee Se Hee, who presented the award. Despite both actors having appeared in several dramas before, it made me wonder what criteria are used to determine a "new actor/actress" in this award category.

Specifically, I am curious about what qualifications an actor or actress must have to be considered "new" in this context. Additionally, I would like to understand why Na In Woo was still eligible for the Best New Actor award despite having prior acting experience. Clarification on these questions would greatly enhance my understanding of the category and its selection process.

It doesn't really have anything to do with being "new" per say. And that is kinda the thing with all awards.  Being nominated for best new actor/actress means you had a "break through". Like it is your first time acting in a tv show or in a movie in a major role.
So its not truly referring to being a complete "new" actor in the business.

Thanks for the reply. So the actor landed a lead role for the first time, and that's why they got nominated for the award. It makes sense now. Appreciate the help.
