Romance drama with unusual crazy plot?

So yeah, like straight up cute batshit plot drama? It doesn't matter if its a soap drama.

I recently heard a news where a mom's adopted son's bride turned out to be her long lost biological daughter. there you can imagine the drama!!

i want a plot as unusual as that. it doesn't have to be similar to the news, but unusual enough!!!

For makjang type crazy. There is no one more absurd in making dramas like  writer Im Sunghan. Dear Heaven is definitely hers. I think her current drama Durians Affair has crazy plot, same with some of my fave of hers Miss Mermaid, new Tales of a Gisaeng. Though probably none as crazy as Apgujeong Midnight Sun (this one i just read articles, didnt watch this) where she went and declared retirement after backlash of the on and off screen craziness.


For other unusual plots, maybe:


  • Kotaro Lives alone - its not batshit crazy plot but as the title states, its kotaro living alone, but kotaro is just a kid living alone and meets the different residents of the apartment complex. Very interesting plot tbh for a very interesting drama

Fantasy/sci-fi/supernatural elements:

  • Vampire Idol - vampire planet with vampire prince who has his very handsome vampire posey as they try to idols on earth after being stranded
  • Go princess Go
  • See you in my 19th life
  • Marigold in 4 minutes

These have the craziest plots/set-ups I've seen, all are romances:

  • Watashi no Tadashi Oniichan  (ML killed the FL's brother but the FL's brother (unknown to her) was a horrible evil person so the ML had reasons to kill him. Despite this, the leads fall in love and the ultimate twist at the end is to prevent the ML from going to jail he takes the identity of the FL's dead brother and the two end up living together under that identity publicly while being lovers privately.) 
  • Come and Hug Me (ML's father killed FL's parents and a bunch of other stuff happens but the leads still manage to get a happy ending together. This is a less off the wall plot but still unusual, especially with that ending.)
  • Choco Milk Shake (BL, ML's pet dog and cat reincarnate and come back human)
  • Pumpkin Time (fairy changes the FL's gender)
  • You Make Me Dance (BL love story between a dancer and the debt collector who comes to collect from him and ends up living in his apartment with him)
  • Night of Love With You (FL is a manga character always cast as the villain SFL. Now she gets to be the good FL but becomes involved with the villain of the story.)
  • Unusual Idol Love (ML is an android idol singer who doesn't know he's not human. His creators try to kill him, FL saves him and he lives with her while the creators hunt for him. If that's not crazy enough, the SML, also an android, has a romance with a human SFL, too.)
  • 30-sai made Dotei Da to Mahotsukai ni Nareru rashii (BL, 30 year old virgin ML suddenly gains the ability to hear thoughts and discovers his co-worker is in love with him.)
  • Bokura no Micro na Shuumatsu (BL...literally everything is nuts in this drama right down to the ending)
  • Promise Cinderella (newly divorced woman ends up living with much younger ML who is the school bully)
  • I Am Your Bleating Phone (ML is a cellphone in human form who starts out as a gift to the FL and then eventually becomes her love interest. It's weirdly cute.)

and maybe:

  • Gokushufudo (it's not a romance but the lead is married and there's some cute family moments. The premise is definitely crazy, though.) 
  • My Lethal Man (ML, presumed dead as a child, comes back to reclaim his place and get revenge from his rich family. FL, a double of his dead sister, ends up getting caught up in the plot by the ML by posing as the sister. Despite all this the two quickly fall in love.)

  • Hi Bye, Mama (FL died years ago and left behind her husband and baby. She can reincarnate for 49 days and comes back to life. After years been dead, things are quite different from when she was alive).
  • Glass Mask  (FL is involved in an accident with a rich young woman. This woman's mother just pays the ER doctor to make  a plastic surgery on the FL, so she can look exactly like her daughter (involved in the accident). When FL wakes up, she has an unfamiliar face and everyone says she's not who she thinks.
  • The Spy Who Loves Me (The story about a woman that everytime she falls in love, she discovers the guy was actually a spie)
  •  Jao Sao Jum Yorm (FL is engaged and her fiance leaves her in the althar. ML is also getting married in that day and sees his bride running away with another man [the other man being FL's fiance]. ML and FL meet suddenly after both are abandoned in their wedding days and just decide to get married after.
  • Ku Kaen San Rak  (FL's sister is scammed and brokenhearted by ML. FL decides to get revenge on ML and tries to do the same he did with her sister)  
  • Love Destiny (Imagine a nice and gentle woman in the 21st century. This woman had an ancestor 300 years ago that looked exactly like her, but was PURE EVIL. What if this present woman has her body swapped into her evil ancestral in the past era where everyone hates her 'cause they don't know she's in her evil ancestral's body.
  • Padiwarada (FL decides to help her adoptive sister and pretends to be her to get married to an unknown man that lives in a dangerous place. Until when the FL can pretend to be her sister? What happens after the ML discovers everyone made him a fool and now he's married with someone else?

  • Somebody- The leads have a strange connection in the midst of all the serial killer stuff.

  • Meow, the Secret Boy - The ML is literally a cat.
  • Are You Human Too? - The ML is literally 100% a robot (not a human with robot parts).
  • Kimi wa Petto - The ML becomes the FL's pet who lives with her while she dates other men.
  • I Cannot Hug You - The FL is a "vampire" who requires physical contact to suck energy from humans. The ML is her neighbour who avoids physical contact because he's a germaphobe. 
  • Mr. Queen - A male chef in modern day South Korea (Jang Bong Hwan) ends up in a coma and his soul / consciousness travels back in time to Joseon, where it ends up in the body of the Queen. Jang Bong Hwan has a pretty big / unique personality that the King finds surprisingly charming. 
  • Nobleman Ryu's Wedding - BL. The sister (Hwa Jin) of one ML (Ki Wan) is betrothed to the other ML. When Hwa Jin disappears before her wedding, Ki Wan takes her place.

Romance drama with insane connection-coincidences:

  • Her Private Life - The ML and FL have chance encounters at an auction and an airport. Later, the ML turns out to be the FL's new boss. After they start dating, they learn that the ML was befriended by the FL and briefly taken in by her mother when he was abandoned (sort of) as a child, before the FL's mother put him up for adoption.
  • A Familiar Stranger - The ML and FL met by chance and saved each other's lives. They each fell for each other at that point, but were separated without learning each other's names. Years later, the villain is betrothed to the ML by order of the emperor. She forces the FL to take her place and wed the ML, and uses magic to switch their faces. Also, it turns out that the villain is actually the FL's long-lost sister.
  • Crash Landing on You - The ML and FL had two chance encounters in Switzerland years before they meet again by chance in North Korea. Both encounters in Switzerland helped prevent the FL from committing suicide. One encounter involved the FL hearing the ML play a song he composed the one and only time he ever played it publicly. The FL also happened to buy a watch at a pawn shop with the intent of giving it to the ML as a gift. She wasn't able to give it to the ML directly, but her purchase helped it eventually end up in the ML's hands anyway. The watch happened to belong to the ML's deceased brother and was the key to solving his murder.
  • Who Rules the World - The ML and FL are two of the most powerful cultivators in the martial arts world. They are friendly rivals, and the ML has a bit of a crush on the FL. It turns out that they are each moonlighting as cultivators and keeping their true identities (as members of the royal families of their respective kingdoms) secret. In fact, the ML (in his true prince identity) was even betrothed to the FL (in her true princess identity) when they were young.

what you are refering? complicated/not-cleared kinda brother-sister, uncle-niece, friend-mom etc  romantic relationship   ?

If you want to watch strange dramas, then watch Japanese dramas. But to watch Japanese drama, you will need patience and psychological study.

Till The End of The Moon (Cdrama) - Love/hate trope. I want to kill you but I also love you. And the guy who hated the girl turned to be so obsessed with her in the end. It’s crazy batshit romance that mess up my head.

in terms of absolute crazy dramas I'd say go for World of the Married and Penthouse 

Otherwise try arthouse genre dramas. They are quite mad but if you enjoy these than they are definitely something to think about for a long time to come, eg. Somebody, The Uncle, 3 Iron

OMG YES!!!! Mexican novelas are great!

In my country (Brazil) we see the mexican novelas or telenovelas in Prime Video or youtube, when they are dubbed or subbed for our language.

Another Kdrama rec:  Holo  (ML is an AI. I'm serious.)
