Hi! Lately I've been rewatching Watashitachi wa Douka Shiteiru and I've also watched the movie As Long As We Both Shall Live so I'm in the mood for this kind of dramas.

I'm looking for a Japanese drama (both historical or modern -> if it's modern, it's better if it has also some traditional settings) with romance and it would be a plus if there was also some thriller or mystery elements, like in the drama I mentioned.

Thank you!

So these are all modern in comparison to the ones you listed, but they don’t necessarily feel too modern if that makes sense? Anyway, here are some I rec, but they're more like thriller/mystery with  romantic elements than the other way around:

Mysteries by the same writer/team, not solely romance-focused but with enough of it to be satisfying imo -

Not belonging to ^ category, worth checking out

Thank you for all the recs, apart from the category I'm looking for, I'm actually in the mood for japanese dramas in general, so I'll check them all. Thank you!

Maybe...

  • Rurouni Kenshin (and it's sequel movies) - historical, action, some romance.
  • Ashi Girl (time travel from modern day to the past, romance, adventure)
  • Kiki's Delivery Service (movie, modern day but cozy countryside setting that feels older, fantasy)
  • Watashi no Tadashi Oniichan (modern day but small town setting, thriller/mystery/forbidden love, reminds me a bit of Watashitachi wa Douka Shiteiru)
  • Once Upon a Crime (movie, historical/fantasy setting, mystery/crime, some romance)
  • Your Eyes Tell (movie, romance, action, doesn't fit the vibe of what you're looking for but it's a beautiful romance so I thought I'd toss it in)

I've already watched some of them, but I'll try the other ones. Thank you! :)
