I have just started watching a Thai drama "Mafia Tee Ruk(My Beloved Mafia)", and the male lead seems to fit the Bad Boy Falls in Love premise .... He's a rich, good-looking, and powerful Chinese mafia leader who liked the girl instantly when he first saw her during his trip to Thailand. She also saved him from a certain situation, thus impressing him more and that's when his obsession for her started. He took advantage of the girl's father's addiction to gambling and he manipulated the father into signing a contract at his casino, using the daughter as collateral. He also had his men kidnap the girl when she refused to come to him. I can see from the trailer that this girl is going down to end up falling for this guy though. Most (not all) Thai Lakorns seem to come from a different mold compared to the usual Kdramas or Cdramas and sort of reminds me strongly of those earlier escape literary works classified as Western historical romance novels, but with a side of crazy. It's like one of the novels by Johanna Lindsey where the hero is instantly attracted to the heroine at first sight and kidnaps her..... bodice ripper novels they call them. They are not meant for impressionable minds for sure because there are moral taboos involved in this kind of plots so if you are sensitive to those, then a slap/kiss Thai drama is probably not your cup of tea and there are a lot of them out there. But for purely escape entertainment value , then it serves its purpose for lakorn viewers. I myself do watch a variety of Kdramas, Cdramas, Jdramas, and Thai dramas and I've noticed that each of them have their own usual formula when it comes to story plots. I also have my own personal favorites and I say everybody have different tastes, so to each his or her own preference.
