Pls recommend me some dramas that you think are underrated or are not popular but good !I watch mostly popular dramas and want to try something new.

Thanks :-)

Golden Empire - underrated and overlooked but it is a very well written and engaging drama.

Thank you all for your recs!!! There are dramas I never even heard of and they look interesting . I'm really happy and I will add them to my PTW list. 감사합니다 !

Omg I noticed you've only watched k dramas so far. I really urge you to give c dramas a try if you're looking for something new! C dramas in general are super underrated despite being fantastic. I'll recommend some that are not really underrated to c drama fans (they're actually all really popular) but are good transition ones if you started out as a k drama fan.

  1. A Love So Beautiful
  2. My Huckleberry Friends
  3. Goodbye My Princess
  4. Eternal Love
  5. Meteor Garden (2018)
  6. Accidentally in Love
  7. Boss and Me
  8. Love O2O
  9. Fifteen Years to Wait for Migratory Birds
  10. When We Were Young (2018)

I have already thought about watching C dramas because I love historical dramas but the lenght have drawn me back. Also, my friend said that the plots are usually cliche so I wasn't sure if I want to watch it. What's your opinion on that ? Are they very different from kdramas?

Chinese dramas have a way different feel to them and the pacing is much different than in k dramas, which can sometimes be good and sometimes be bad lol. There can definitely be some repetition and cliches in some c dramas but I think that's a lot asian dramas in general. However, there are some unique quality shows that have been made in China that I really really love. The length can be super daunting and some shows get hella draggy not going to lie lol, but you just have to find the right ones.

I personally think if you like historicals you should give Eternal Love (ultra fantasy cgi heavy), Goodbye My Princess (mostly realistic, slight fantasy element), or the Story of Ming Lan (a realistic take on a family during the Song dynasty) a shot. They're really well made and I never felt bored during any of them despite the super long episode count.

A show with a more palatable episode count that is also fantastic is A Love So Beautiful. It was actually the first chinese drama I ever watched and it's super cute. It has a few cliches but I feel like they're well done and fit into the story.

I just want to say you really miss out on some good dramas if the number of episodes puts you off. Let me ask this question: Who cares how long it is when its good throughout? The only thing with long dramas is the first couple of episodes tend to be a bit boring but its because they are setting up the characters.

If you like historicals I think the Chinese do it better than anyone and they also portray strong females a lot which I love. Dramas from everywhere have cliches its just a matter of how cheesy can they get and how much you're willing to put up with lol

+1 Eternal Love- you wont get bored with this one and I have yet to hear anyone say anything bad about it.

Nirvana in Fire- hella smart lead, strong females, epic bromance, revenge- its awesomesauce

The Princess Wei Young- A1 amazing chemistry with the leads

Legend of Concubine Zhen Huan- ok so this has 70+ episodes but trust is doesn't lag at all... like I was shocked at how quick I was going through it because the story is so good

@ShotaSidePart

Yes you are right and I don't think that long dramas can't be good it's just that I am usually addicted and I binge watch dramas if they are good and when you don't have time because of school or other things it's a real problem. I have watched only one long drama - Empress Ki and that's because I was sick at home and had time. Btw Empress Ki is one of my favourite kdramas of all time.

Thank you for your recs :-)
