I'd like to watch more Chinese dramas but there are a couple things I want to avoid and I'm finding a hard time finding things.

  • No Wuxia or Historical
  • No cold hearted genius male leads
  • Looking to branch out from the high school/college dramas
  • No love triangles (or very minimal love triangles?)

It is hard to find... They love this concept of male dominant.

But there is the  cute romance:  Oh my drama lover.

Ml in Love is in the air is an angel

Long for you ML is an artist, in the beginning he seems distant

lol I know! idk why "cold jerkface" == dominant in their books but apparently it does. I'll check out your suggestion, thanks!

  • Go Ahead (2020)  (There are a love triangle and a small part in school/college). I still highly recommend it despite the few things I mentioned.

I didn't watch it yet but maybe You Are My Hero (2021)? It's currently airing (the final episode will air the April 8! ) I think it can be what you are looking for

I've seen Go Ahead and it was fantastic, that had the bearable kind of love triangle and Steven Zhang really stole the show for me.  Thanks!

You're welcome! If I can think about other dramas, I'll update my previous recs :)

The only issue I'm having is that they are so long! I started Begin Again and Forever Love before making this thread and I've reached about episodes 24, and 21 respectively and I feel my attention waning.

I think the problem I'm having with both these drama is that once the couple is together and stable they move to business drama that I find super boring. I think I'm going to pick up You're My Hero because that looks like something really different and I might avoid the same draggy feeling.

Yeah, Dani. The korean drama have the advantage of being shorter, so I feel more inclined to watch them. While picking chinese drama, I make a search in mydramalist with the tags: calm (or nice) male lead and restrict the number of episodes.

Sometimes I watch these long drama, but I skip parts, sometimes getting help of episode recaps published in a blog.

Have a great day!

hi i've watched you are my hero (watched 28 eps and read some spoilers) and i can say its a really good drama. main leads relationship is very healthy. though there are fights its gets solved fairly quickly and both leads have good communication and chemistry. the storyline is also nice. the only "bad" thing is the second couple because there are times where it can be a bit tiring to watch them but overall its a very good drama.

If you don't mind a Taiwanese recommendation, you might like Someday or One Day.  It's only 13 episodes.

It's partially a high school drama, but not a typical one, because the main character is 27.

And it's a little bit like a love triangle, but an unusual one involving time travel and doppelgangers.
