Ex Hot stove league, Prison Playbook , Less than evil, The guest

P.S. im not fond of Korean Historical dramas or period dramas or dramas that are too old already starting from 2014 below

You should try some web dramas. I wouldn't really consider them mainstream—for example, Kiss Scene in Yeonnamdong and Dear My Name

New Tales of Gisaeng is excellent too.  I thought the story was well written and developed, especially each character's storyline. You can really feel the love and struggles each character goes through in the drama. It has 52 episodes.

I'm not quite sure what you consider "not mainstream" or "underrated" considering Prison Playbook has 37,000+ watchers and is one of the highest rated dramas on MDL, but I'll do my best. The following dramas all have less than 20,000 watchers on MDL and I thought they were good.

Six Flying Dragons - This one is great! Highly recommend.

The Hymn of Death - It could have been better, but it's a good story and is not long, so I'd say it's worth watching.

White Christmas - I watched this a long time ago, but I remember enjoying it and thinking it was very good even though psychological thriller is probably my least favorite genre.

The King in Love - This one wasn't great, but I think it's better than the rating might lead you to believe. Definitely flawed, but it had some aspects that I enjoyed a lot as well.

The Crowned Clown - I would have thought this one was more popular, but apparently not. The story is very standard for a sageuk, but the execution is above average.

Familiar Wife - This was probably longer than it needed to be and it was sometimes a bit frustrating, but I think the themes were nice.

These are some old dramas that were definitely mainstream in their day (all had high ratings in Korea), but I guess they're not popular because they're old: Warrior Baek Dong Soo, Queen Seon Duk, IRIS, Iljimae, Jumong.

I know most of these are historical, which might not be the genre you're looking for, but I hope something helps. :)

Dramas that feel are underrated, non romance centered and not mainstream:

  • Misaeng - this one was actually locally highly rated and highly buzzed, it also had high praise from international community during its run. But i think this one lost some traction in the recent years. This one is one of those rare gems that is just simply sooo good.
  • Super Family / Strong Family
  • Vampire Prosecutor
  • Memory
  • A Poem a Day
  • Be Melodramatic
  • My Wife is Having an Affair this week
  • Just Dance
  • Special Labor Inspector Mr. Jo
  • Plus Nine Boys
  • Nine Times Travel
  • Squad 38 / 38 task force
  • Life is Beautiful (2010)
  • A Story of a Man
  • Argon
  • Chief Kim
  • Beethoven Virus
  • Brain
  • Behind the White Tower
  • Dear My Friends

Also some of the old kdramas feel like they dont have that much mainstream clout in the international community:

  • The Last Game
  • Eyes of Dawn
  • Sandglass
  • First Love
  • Feelings
  • Into The Sunlight

Based on the shows that you mentioned, it doesn't seem like you're interested in romance dramas, but I'll mention some just in case:

Spring Turns to Spring - Kim Bo Mi works as a TV news anchorwoman and she only cares about herself. Lee Bom was once a popular actress, but she is now a lawmaker's wife. She focuses only on taking care of her family. Somehow these two women switch bodies. Comedy

Cheongdamdong Alice -Han Se Kyung is a young woman with a very positive character. Her motto is "effort will take me as far as I want to go". She wins many designing contests and finally joins a clothing company. But, at work, Han Se Kyung does errands and chores rather than design. Meanwhile, the wife of an upper management employment at the clothing company humiliates Han Se Kyung. The wife is actually a former high school classmate of Han Se Kyung who didn't do better than her in school. This makes Han Se Kyung look back on her life RomCom

Different Dreams - A turning point in Korean history, one never to be forgotten is presented in this engaging historical drama, celebrating its 100th anniversary. In 1919, during the Japanese colonial period, two events paved the way for the independence of Korea, the March 1st Movement and the establishment of the Korean Provisional Government. And with it, a covert armament for freedom was born, the Heroic Corps. Action Romance

For underrated dramas that do unusual things , I'd recommend Pied Piper, Liar Game (Korean version), Beautiful World , My Unfamiliar Family, and The Queen's Classroom (it's 2013 so slightly outside your time window).
